Also, if I remember Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield was a whiny, lazy, arrogant, self-entitled, unlikeable little shit, too, so it's fitting. Then again, Caulfield was actually pretty smart despite all that, so maybe not. Been a while since I read the book, though, so I might not be remembering correctly.

No, you're totally correct there. Holden was the original kid who needed to, excuse the expression, check his privilege (he came from a wealthy family, went to prep school, and was sent to a shrink at a time when that wasn't common). He's one of the more famous unreliable narrators in American lit, up there with Humbert Humbert (why Marijan hasn't used that one escapes me, especially given he wanted to be married off by 18, implying marriage before 18 was a possibility in his fantasy). He keeps whining about the concept of "phonies" like he's the first teenager ever to figure out that not every adult totally cares about all aspects of your life, and in a very Marijan sort of way, believes that he is pretty much the only non-corrupt person on the planet (he includes his sister in this, which is one difference, because Marijan is very good at dodging questions about his siblings). Your memory is spot on, MTT. Well done.

When he comes back, should we keep calling him a men's rights activist? He seems to hate it (because it's a mislabeling™!), but since he likes to paint anyone who disagrees with him as a liberal, it might be fitting.
 
so is it possible to archive the ramblings of Holden, to read for further refrence or when bored?
the 600 pages could be discouraging for any future readers, since they will think that you need to read all of them to get what's going on when in reality 89% of this is just Holden rambling.
