How will Eren be stopped?

I just remembered something that makes this all worse. Even if they somehow managed to take down the invasion of the KoM, and kill all the newly titaned people, the KoM still exists. There's still an entire country that is vastly more technologically advanced than the Paradisers', and chock full of citizens who had no problem keeping them in what basically amounted to a giant concentration camp. How are they going to beat that when they can barely fight off an invasion? Either they lose, or @Secret Asshole's matrix idea has to happen. There is no other way out of this.

The wiki says that she ranked 21st in a January 2018 character poll.
That is way too high. How does she rank above Connie? Goddamn it.

I do think you're overreacting a bit. This arc certainly hasn't been my favorite so far, although I like insane as fuck and villainous (but confusingly mysterious) Eren and I really like the idea that the AoT world is far more complicated and interesting than "kill Titans and then kill Marley because they're bad". But still, it's one chapter. And I don't think the intention is at all to have Gabi kill Eren. He ain't dead. It's a bullshit cliffhanger that will be resolved in the next chapter. Even when Attack on Titan was what I'd call "great" it did this shit constantly.

Typically I'm pretty good at seeing the angles of a story and where they're going to go. The problem here is, this doesn't make sense from a story-telling perspective. Its a bad decision all around. I do realize Isayama loves his fake-outs and cliff-hangers, but this is another level.

Also I'll never sympathize with KoM. They're Nazis and colonizers who put their enemies in a concentration camp. Its rather black and white. Paradis is a concentration camp for people who don't even know what they did. Eren did a Dresden like the allies did in WWII. It doesn't make the cause of the allies any less righteous. We also firebombed the ever living fuck out of Japan. Its always black and white to me, because I'm not going to sympathize with a Kingdom that has their own little private concentration camp and turns their enemies into Titans to torture them. And if they wake up to that realization, they will be genocided. They're fated to slowly die through starvation and being devoured alive. There's no nuance here. KoM has done things worse than its conquerors by a longshot. And yeah, kill Marley because they want to murder your entire population.

Isayama's attempt to make 'both sides equal' has been a total, laughable fucking failure in my eyes. One surprise attack on civilians doesn't equal centuries of genocide and horrific death and oppression.

I really hope Eren isn't dead, not just because that would be the worst possible direction to take the story, but because I've been thoroughly enjoying how he's so fucking overpowered it's re:tarded. Just look at all the shit he's accomplished since the timeskip.

  • Knowingly walks into Marley's trap and turns it into a devastating massacre that severely cripples Marley's military power and structure.
  • Manages to turn at least 90% of Paradis to his side without even saying a word.
  • Cucks Mikasa out of her number 1 fan without even knowing she exists
  • Turns Floch from despising him with every fiber of his being into his most loyal soldier.
  • Didn't even feel Armin's punch despite Armin being ripped.
  • Let's Pieck infiltrate Paradis, not because of some 4D chess but because he's mildly curious about what she has planned.
  • Pieck's trap doesn't even manage to slow him down.
  • Completely destroys Porco and Reiner at the same time without even trying.
  • His Titan is shot in the head, twice, which was supposed to cripple him but he shrugged it off.
  • As soon as he forced to actually try, he uppercuts Reiner's head so hard it knocks the top half of it off. Granted, Isayama forgot about that when he drew the next chapter, along with five thousand other details.
At this point, it would not shock me if it turns out he tricked Gabi into shooting his head off as part of some autistic plot that somehow helps him destroy Marley.

I don't know man. I just can't figure out the angle here. Any way you go from here is asspull territory with the exception of Eren being dead. Which is the least likely thing obviously.

Not surprised considering his other incredibly disturbing habits, but I'm still disappointed that he actually admitted to it. He's indirectly admitted to being a coward, too. You want to hurt your readers, Isayama? Then kill Levi. But you can't because you know he's the only thing holding your series together, and if he dies, your series dies. So you go for the cliffhangers, and hope that you can stall long enough to wrap up most of this series before actually saying whether or not he's dead.

Something I want to mention is that I found this image while browsing, and while I don't know how recent it is, I do know that if it is old, it definitely hasn't aged well.

You know what, at least they had the balls to do it, and from what I've heard, it's speculated that they did want it to end there, but were pressured into continuing by the publishers.

And to be honest, I'm thinking this might be the case with AoT. The only difference is that the creators of Death Note handled it much better, and kept their story relatively sane, while Isayama has effectively decided to just lash out at everyone and purposefully wreck his own story.

I'll admit that I could be wrong here, but it's statements like those pictured above that make me feel like he's just decided to burn his series to the ground because of industry shit. Either way, he's still a very immature person, and needs help.

As for why people are still defending this shit, I think it has to do with a variety of factors.
  1. They are that stupid, and have terrible taste.
  2. Due to AoT being a monthly thing, they could just be not fully realizing how bad the story is when you read it fully.
  3. They're in denial about it.
  4. They don't read the manga, and only watch the anime. They are truly ignorant as to how bad this is. This, and number five are are the biggest reasons to me.
  5. They do know it's bad, but they're afraid to speak out about it. The AoT fandom is probably the most toxic fandom currently in the anime/manga community.
You know, I think I finally thought of a series that mirrors the success of AoT perfectly. Sword Art Online. Think about it. SAO was originally a poorly-written light novel that no one gave a shit about until it was given a pretty anime. Everyone was obsessed with it, and no dared criticize it until popular YouTubers started making videos on how terrible it was. The biggest wake-up call, though, was when Something Witty Entertainment made an abridged series mocking it for all its flaws, and ultimately ended up fixing all those flaws, proving that someone could and did make the series better, and that it wasn't some infallible, perfect creation that no one dare try to criticize.

AoT is the same thing. A poorly-written, poorly-drawn manga that no one gave a shit about until it got a pretty anime. The problem is that no one has spoken out against AoT, and there is no abridged series to my knowledge actually ripping on it and improving it. It's yet another reason I'm mad TFS got hit with that legal threat from the Japanese distributors. I know for a fact that they would've torn this series a new one, and made it better had they made it this far.

What I'm saying is that the majority of people aren't going to speak up until the four season when shit really starts hitting the fan, and popular YouTubers finally start calling it out. And when it gets and abridged series akin SAO's.

Oh yeah, he's definitely a poseur in that way. If Levi dies, his readership drops off even worse than after the basement reveal. I also think he'll experience a drop-off if Eren is truly dead, because then who really gives a shit what he was planning? Fucker's dead. Which is why I don't think he's truly dead, because it'd be complete self-sabotage. Oh yeah, he's completely immature and I think this worship of him has gone right to his fucking head and thinks he can do no wrong. And burning it down due to industry shit is equivalent to a simpering child. Fucking hell.

I mean, at least Death Note did, and it should have ended there. It was unfortunate they continued due to pressure.

I think you're right. AoT is just super popular and the fandom is fucking terrible. All it is are shippers and idiots thinking this is the best thing ever. There's this definite hesitation to call AoT out on YouTube. And I guess that you're right in that people are scared to call it out because its so popular. I watched five minutes from a couple of anime YouTubers and I was laughing so hard because you could hear it in their voice that they could barely defend it, but knew they had to 'be positive' and tow the line that 'Isayama is a genius' otherwise they'd get devoured by their viewers.

Yeah, it became the 'normie anime' for people who didn't watch anime. Which has made it insanely profitable, because people who don't watch anime tend to just watch AoT. So it makes sense the fandom got worse. Yeah, its just fucking trash. Isayama got incredibly lucky that it got popular. Too bad his shit writing and the basement reveal completely fucked over his own story. Which is why the anime is only getting one more season. Which has its super-fans completely perplexed as to why just one more. Because everyone with half a brain knows its fucking garbage after they get to the basement, fuckwits.

I just remembered something that makes this all worse. Even if they somehow managed to take down the invasion of the KoM, and kill all the newly titaned people, the KoM still exists. Yeah, no clue. Allegedly it seems like there might be the rumbling that's activated. Who the fuck knows at this point. This is writing yourself into a corner in the extreme. I mean, its only unexpected because it literally ruins your story and forces you to make insane decisions.

Mary Sue is 21? Fucking lol. Shows you the state of this fandom.

Isayama's attempt to make 'both sides equal' has been a total, laughable fucking failure in my eyes. One surprise attack on civilians doesn't equal centuries of genocide and horrific death and oppression.
I know we've gone about this like five times, but I still can't wrap my head around it. Is Isayama genuinely that autistic that he thinks these actions equal each other? Because due to his recent actions, I'm starting to think it's less autism and just more sociopathy. Probably both.

Being 100% honest, Gabi is one of the worst characters of Attack on Titan and she should be dead.

I think the author is a secret Lolicon, because to keep such a worthless piece of shit character alive is, well, bad.
Honestly, I disagree with this quite a bit. There's nothing suggesting that this is the case. Gabi being a child soldier is because literally everyone else in the series is. As to why he's keeping her alive is because she's his Mary Sue, and possibly because he's trying to get to replace Sasha in the eyes of the fandom. That last part is probably not true, but I just noticed how much Gabi looks like Sasha, and the more I think about it, the more sense it makes.

If I had to pin Isayama for anything sexual, I'd say he's into BDSM. I think the whole shit machine thing is enough to justify it.

Being 100% honest, Gabi is one of the worst characters of Attack on Titan and she should be dead.

Gabi is a self-insert and a Mary Sue. She should have long been dead. Isayama, however, can't take that the readers don't like her and keeps her around. There's 0 reason she should have killed Eren, it should have been random soldiers. Or an arty strike. But again, he is constantly forcing her upon the readership because I do get the feeling he wants to hurt them.

Her being alive makes 0 sense. Mikasa would have tossed that bitch off the blimp with a second thought or cut her head off. If you want to go grey, have your characters kill a child soldier that was like them. Add some fucked up morality. But nah, just make her an expert at everything and someone everyone loves. She's just a Mary Sue. Which is why she's alive and around.,

I know we've gone about this like five times, but I still can't wrap my head around it. Is Isayama genuinely that autistic that he thinks these actions equal each other? Because due to his recent actions, I'm starting to think it's less autism and just more sociopathy. Probably both.

I know, we've went over it a lot. There's simply no nuance. Which is why I think he's actually autistic, because he really doesn't understand people and I don't get the feeling he likes his readers. Like he's trying to create this 'world of grey' but it simply won't work. I think he does. Which is idiotic. Any student of history can tell you wars are full of things like this. So, no, its not equivocal even though he believes it is. He's just a garbage mangaka. Its such hack trash.

I mean, what brought me back to Isayama and the way he treats his characters differs so much from Araki and Jojo. He headed up the game Jojo: Eyes of Heaven. And its basically fan-fiction by him since it was written by him in an 'alternate universe'. So much love and care was put into it for the fans and then I think of Isayma who seems to just hate the readership could never do something like this. (Granted his readership is trash, but still).

The only good thing about this chapter is that he's completely baffled me as to how he's going to write his way out of this. I think my Matrix idea is the only plausable way to retain dignity. But allegedly the rumbling is going to happen. So...*shrugs*. I don't know. I'm not a fucktard so I wouldn't have written myself into a corner like this.

I also laugh at people who think killing a protag at a point like this (for real) is smart. It isn't. The protagonist is driving the action of the story. Pretty much all protagonists die at the end because the action of the story is coming at the end. There's a reason for it. Also, your readership has accepted your protagonist and you're going to have to shift to someone else. There's no guarantee they will accept this and any time this happens the 'new' protagonist is rejected. Its very, very rare to kill off a protagonist at what is basically the beginning of the third act with so much left to go. Because there's simply not enough time to replace that protagonist with someone your audience can accept. Who is going to replace Eren anyway? Gabi? Her arc is done if Eren is dead. Mikasa? She's barely independent. Armin? He hasn't done much of anything for a very long time. Levi? Either dead or out of the game. That's really the core problem with killing Eren, hence why he isn't dead. There simply isn't anyone else to replace him to the degree of which the readership has any familiarity. If he's truly dead, Isayama is self-sabotaging and incompetent.

I mean, Eren can die. Just not right now. There were also people like 'This isn't american comics, when someone dies they're really dead' and I just laughed my ass off. Reiner transferred his consciousness into his asshole like 30 times. Zeke died and was resurrected like Jesus. Levi is more than likely alive from a point blank shrapnel infusion. Don't even start with that shit.

When did they get guns? I've been watching the dubbed anime so I'm definitely not in the loop here. Someone spoil it for me. I don't care about spoilers and if you do then you're exceptional.

Pretty much they always had guns, it's just that they were ineffective against Titans. Also, Marley's military is WW2 Germany-comparable without the panache of the Fuhrer army in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

So wait... all of this was supposed to be a calculated military attack on the walls? Kinda seems like Zeke. Reiner and the others did a real shit job for trained soldiers.

Oh I definitely agree this is some of the worst writing of all time, I just think it's so bad it's the most entertaining AoT has ever been. If AoT has to be retarded, then over the top, nonsensical bullshit with zero foreshadowing is the best way to do it.

Dumb plot twists like Titans completely overwriting thier host's personality and Zeke being saved from death by being put into the Sand Stomach are hilarious, and the horribly drawn art makes it even funnier.

Yeah, that's how it is for every military in this series. They're not so much trained soldiers as they are lucky dumbasses who made it this far without dying.

So I might be in the minority on this and to some extent I've expressed my feelings on this in the Unpopular Anime Opinions thread, but I really feel like Attack On Titan has gotten better with each new chapter. I don't say this often but I'm honestly glad I stuck with this series past the first few episodes of the anime. I thought season one was hot garbage riding a wave of shock deaths and overdone drama, and I still feel that way. Season two toned those negatives down a little and actually developed a few of the characters enough for me to care a little but still had a lot of the same issues. Season three has been remarkably better and after that I started reading the manga. I'm currently up to chapter 109 and I'm absolutely in love with this story. I know a lot of people probably think all the talking and politics are boring but I find it all very interesting and thought provoking considering this started out as your dime a dozen seasonal anime fad.

Also thank you to whoever it was that posted the link to the manga in here. Because of yo I haven't slept all night. I hate you.

I prefer Tokyo Ghoul because Ishida at least knew his audience well, and the end chapter's epilogue where he talks about his creation process made me smile. That's humility. I don't know what it is about the AoT author that he's a fucking egotistic asshole.

It was a surprised and rushed military attack where Marley threw everything into regaining the founding titan and stopping Zeke's plan (All of the warriors and Magath himself joining the fight). Little did they know, they easily fell into the trap and appeared to be almost destroyed in the end of chapter 119.

Same with Araki after Stone Ocean, which was controversial. He was really humble and affirmed that it was far happier than originally thought (I don't know who the fuck thought Araki would give the entirety of Part 1-6 a downer ending which is basically completely against Jojo). Which I hope the anime will fix, since it was too ambiguous. Isayama just hates his fans and literally does not give a single fuck about anything. He just seems autistic and up his own ass, which is why a majority of what he's trying to do fails. It works as a trashy GoT knock-off with terrible, soap-opera writing. Going from visceral horror to the basement, way to blow your own face off. Or have your 12 year old Mary Sue 'kill' your main character that most people don't really care about anymore. There's just no emotion there, its just fucking funny.

Eren: "I am expert plan master, I WIN!"

Gabi: *Somehow finds a horse with enemy soldiers everywhere as well as Titans, rides a horse which she cannot do as stated in previous chapters, finds an empty field, in a place surrounded by Titans and houses, somehow finds Eren in all the chaos, gets perfect vantage point, lines up shot in a second, fires an ANTI TANK rifle from a crouching position, gets 360 no-scope headshot* "Fuckin' n00b".

The amount of actions Gabi has to go through to shoot Eren through the neck is so ridiculous its funny. It goes beyond coincidence to Mary Sue territory. Everything has to line up 100% perfectly with no hitches for this to work. I mean, Isayama has done it before with Serum bowl, but this is FAR more egregious than that.

Yeah, they were pretty much eradicated, except for Eren murder, but they've basically got nothing left.

As @Stay safe said, it could have been Eren's plan all along to get his fucking head shot off. Who the fuck knows.

"Were you intending to die here?"

"Yis."

"Why?"

"So I can enter PATHS, rape the devil and destroy Space Time."

I personally can't stand Tokyo Ghoul. For me it just reads like a parody of every other super edgy anime that ever had a cult following. That's the problem with modern anime, most shows and manga are just made to look pretty and have little to no substance. Meanwhile something like SAO looks pretty and has a few interesting ideas but the execution ultimately ruins everything because we have to pander.

Ishida is actually a very responsive author and frequently talks to his readers on twitter. He seems like a really nice guy, all things considered.

Tokyo Ghoul started out good, and then just started to pile on every edgy thing the author could think of. Not to mention the fuckton of confusing lore that was added in Tokyo Ghoul:re. Despite all this, I do consider Tokyo Ghoul vastly superior to AoT. At least it stayed true to itself, and never tried to be something it wasn't.

Ishida had his dreams come true and was grateful for it and the fans that made it happen. The AoT dude doesn't seem to give a shit.

Another dude who shat it all that he built was the Death Note guy, but as people said, it was due to publisher pressure. Never give in to that.

Quick PS: If you want a truly scary manga, by the way, check out A Trail of Blood. It is positively frightening because there's nothing fantasy about it. It is just the story of a boy... and his psychopathic, overbearing mom.

I'm excited to see
836803

and
836804
animated next season, especially since they said it'll be the "Final Season", which means it'll be about 24-28 episodes. After all, the manga only has a few chapters left, so it's plausible.

This season has been incredible. First part of Season 3 was kinda lackluster and left out a lot, but part two of Season 3 was basically 1:1 of the manga (with the exception of some death panels during Erwin's suicide charge). I'm excited to see how Isayama will wrap everything up soon.
