The goal of those questions wasn't to obtain admissible testimony, I'm convinced... it was to get excerpts for #LawTwitter.
I think it's mainly a matter of getting something that sounds incredibly damning because he has to know how shitty his own clients are and that he's going to need something at least as good in order to trump everything that Ty is going to bring out. It just so happens that anything that suits that goal also makes a nice little cherry pick for the peanut gallery on Twitter.
If you look at the different lines of questioning he tried to bring up, most of it makes sense from the perspective of helping the case:
If they can attack the GFM account in some way it deprives Vic of money, which when it comes down to it is a big part of winning cases when you can keep going as long or longer that everyone else.
If they can make it look like Vic authorized the apology letter then he's admitted to being a sex addict which might make the allegations against him seem more likely to have occurred.
If they can make it seem like the other people posting to Twitter, etc. are responsible, then who's to say that Ron/Monica should bear the cost of the damages when everyone else did it.
If they can make it seem like Vic thinks the people who slagged him are trustworthy, then their accusations against him must be correct.
If they can make him admit he's responsible for the actions of his fans in one case, then they can blame him for not stopping other actions that aren't his own.
Fuhrer Lemonhead is scummier than the phlegm stuck in his throat, but if you're Ron and Monica and have a case built on nothing you need a real dirty rat bastard of a lawyer to try to take that shit and squeeze hard enough to make diamonds.
