TGWTG Linkara / Lewis Lovhaug - HMMMMMMM? (Dead Gay Muppet Gangbang)

I never got into Linkara but what’s his origin story when it comes to comics and nerd shit?
His brother liked Nightwing comics. One day he read Teen Titans crossover and liked it. Was part of some e-communities when they started and actually freaked out Gail Simon at one point. Well one point he was flexing his degree right at the time when nostalgia Critic was starting and you know the rest.

The real irony behind his Azrael love
Oh, trust me, he doesn't like Azrael. He just has to hype up a very isolated and simple character so he has to work with what he has.
Mechakara's resurrection in AT4W The Movie was supposed to be an oh shit moment,
That's because Mecha is the only villain that is approaching a character. The rest are vaguely undefined gods or space entities like fucking Galactus. Because who else is strong enough to take on linkara, right?

How did he freak out Gail Simone, aside from showing her either his Lightbringer comic or his porn collection?

Going by memory, but I am 99% certain it was the CBR forums, and Gail I know for sure posted there prolifically 10 years ago. Lewis would topic stalk her. Every time someone had a disagreement with Gail, he'd chime in after her and echo her points. At first, most people thought it was just a really eager fanboy, but he kept dialing it up.

He strikes me as the kind of guy to do that. Hoping that she'll notice him, maybe slip him a private message along the lines of, "Thanks SO MUCH for sticking up for me against these icky internet trolls" and Lewis would hope that this could lead to him getting his foot in the door somehow. Bullshit about how she's his favorite writer and that her stories inspire his own writing and that would hopefully lead to Simone saying that if she thinks of someone to mention to the higher ups at DC/Marvel, he'll be at the top of the list.

I recall hearing Iron Liz mention in an interview with LordKat that she [Liz] once asked him what his endgame was for all this and after ten years, I'm kind of curious about that myself. Does he see himself one day getting a job within the comic industry?

Probably. But from the golden TGWTG day’s, I’d say that the producers thought they’d be the voices of a new era of the Internet and pop culture, whatever that entailed.

Keep in mind they probably thought this since in their early golden days they didn't have that much competition to speak of. Comedic internet reviewers of pop culture media are a dime a dozen these days but when Nostalgia Critic and the rest first popped up they were something of a novelty.

And back then, there weren't too many established web personalities out there to see how one's career trajectory might run. Some of them might have thought that it would lead to TV offers or voiceover work from established companies. I'm genuinely curious how many of them thought that they'd still be working independently, pushing out content to keep their heads above water.

Oh god I remember Mechakara, mostly from TBF. Maybe his worst character. Lewis can't play any role whatsoever whether it's the comic relief or the straight man or whatever but to think he actually could pull off the role of an intimidating bad guy when looking like the dweeby barrel of butter and soy that he is is hysterical to me. It would be like Seth Rogen portraying a Bond villain, he's just not fit for the part in any way, shape or form. And I only say this because Lewis has repeatedly stated in the past that Mechakara is supposed to be taken seriously. Apparently during TBF he insisted for the character to be kept "menacing" and "dark" compared to everyone else.
The sad thing was you could only tell he was serious with this shit after he "resolved" the first arc with Mechakara. I know when I was a younger person that I genuinely thought that the take was based on some of the silver and bronze age shenanigans robotic copies could do either as a villain or just plotwise in general. I actually gave Lewis benefit of the doubt, as I did not know then as I do now he's a stubborn and lazy manchild who cannot be fucked to improve his work and just ignores/rationalizes it when faced with this.

Then he kept trying to make this shit more serious and ate more of his review time on stuff that just never really got any better, and I ditched forever, since I did not have too much of a love for comics at this point anymore since the Ultimates made me stop caring.

Yes.

HAHA Oh wow, am I the first person to catch this?
I had almost forgotten FilmBrain's involvement in this scene, but I never realized until just now that he does exactly what Lightbringer does whenever he encounters a rape in progress...
Are we sure Linkara didn't write this?
:story:
Maybe Doug read lightbringer and thought to himself "How do I make this even more rape-y? I know, have Film Brain be in it!"

One positive thing about his story arcs is that he doesn't really incorporate them into his reviews. You can watch an episode and once the comic is done, that's it, shut the video off.
Except all thouse times when he was "on a space ship". Phelous (of all people) actually did a cool parody of this
"Marvel is the worst. I only pretend to like Marvel to keep fanboys happy, but they did create my favorite thing, which brings me to all unfair deaths" is such a Linkara thing.

Out of curiosity, I started reading his sailor moon fics, and dear God, let's just say they are excellent if you're having trouble sleeping. I'm not trying to be mean, as that's what happened to me in chapter 2.

He hasn't matured as a writer in the slightest. Everything is over explained and clarified, lots of info dumbs that are barely comprehensible, and the protagonist is literally just a Linkara self insert trying and failing so hard to be edgy, and the sailor scouts are just his sidekicks. Worse they are horribly out of character just amazed at how cool he is.

Basically, this is just one of his comic books skits as a novel

I was able to read up to chapter 2 and I don't think I can finish this. It's not even bad in a so bad it's good way.

I'll admit, I don't remember all of his plots, it's not what I'm watching the videos for. I just look for when the real review starts and go from there. A part of me sort of understands why he does them but it's like how Doug Walker originally had a back story for Pop Quiz Hotsot, why does it need it? What's the point of all those stories on Atop the Forth Wall?
Is it to one day show to an editor at Marvel/DC/IDW? To show off his English degree?

He's really a very classic 'Nice Guy' even has the look and ego down pat.

If I'd hazard a guess as to an end goal, he probably wanted to go into the comic industry and saw the reviews with his "original storylines" might have been seen as a possible foot in the door.

That's pretty sad considering the character feels like an attempt to deliberately create and ironic so-bad-it's-good parody of the evil cyborg trope. I remember there was also this missingo ripoff of a villain of him that wanted to accumulate the entire universe into itself, only for Linky to defeat it by sending it into an existential crisis using the incredibly cliche argument of "Ok, but THEN what? You'll be all alone!". It's crazy how effortlessly Linky can ignore how incredibly derivative and lacking of originality all his stories are.

I hate to tell you this fam, but that wasn't a Missingno ripoff. That was the actual Missingno. The real, actual Pokemon glitch. And Linkara used this villain completely unironically. What makes this so much worse is that it didn't even have to be Missingno yet he did it anyway. The only reason the villain of the arc was Missingno was a tie-in to his review of Electric Tale of Pikachu. That's the only reason that makes any sort of sense. Fucking Linkara.

Holy fuck, it's even more cringetastic than I had remembered! How people over the age of 14 still unironically enjoy his work is anyone's guess.

The Missingno twist also really felt like a last minute writing decision he made because IIRC, the Missingno reveal was in the final episode of the arc. So he probably had months of work put into this arc, and yet saw nothing wrong with "The new villain will be Missingno, the Pokemon glitch". In retrospect, this was just a sign of things to come, considering that in the future, he becomes a Power Ranger, a Power Ranger OC and used Pyramid Head as a Pokemon (that last one sounds like a joke, but isn't, look it up).
