I think the problem with that “learn out loud” comment is that usually requires these people actually, you know, learn things. More often I see these hipster artists making a hierarchy of what kinds of artists and art styles are fair game to rip apart for any number of flimsy reasons (the real reason being sour grapes) and then throwing a fit when the same standards are applied to them.
The real wall they’re hitting is that when you demand the bar be lowered so that you can claim that your garbage is “industry standard,” you’re also lowering the bar for every Tom, Dick, and Henrietta that’s on the same level as you and flood the market. Just look at how bloated the indie/self-published comic and artist alleys have gotten at conventions to see this on the ground level.
It’s also why it’s kinda funny that a lot of these same people are demanding that comic book jobs be unionized. They realize that unions for creative endeavors don’t actually eliminate contract work and it makes those payroll creative positions hyper-competitive, right?
