I literally gagged a bit to confirm via google images that it is, most likely a nerve. Not a lot of other things it could be in that area.

WHAT THE FUCK DID SHE DO TO HER LEG FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. I HAVE NEVER SEEN NOR HEARD OF A HUMAN BODY PRODUCING SOMETHING OF THAT SHAPE WITHOUT SEVERE TRAUMA TO THE AREA.
There are a few possibilities for this object depending on the exact location of the injury:
1.) It's a fucking tendon that was ripped not just off of the bone but through the skin.
2.) It's a fucking nerve that was somehow severed and broke through the skin.
I don't think it's 1 or 2 though, Kelly is obviously insane but I just can't picture her self-inflicting wounds on already damaged areas to this extent. To find and yank out a tendon or nerve from her leg would require an absence of any sensation in the limb and for her to dig around in the area. There's muscle and fat and connective tissues in between her and those nerves / tendons, yo. As strange as it seems, I think the most logical explanation is:
3.) It's a fucking tapeworm and she's rotted from the inside out

The worst thing about this is that she’s conditioned me to be used to this kind of stuff. Which is disgusting in its own way.
On another note, she’s essentially admitting that she picks at her legs. “Pulling off a sharp edge” in terms of the scanning on her leg equates to “just another day in the madhouse that is Kelly’s life,” and “This thing flew outta my leg like a busted guitar string” (i.e. a nerve or something COMING OUT OF HER LEG) is the unusual thing. Because usually as she picks at her legs, white stringy stuff doesn’t fly out of them.

95% sure it’s a nerve. She’s able to do it because she’s batshit crazy.

It seems the docs really are just letting her rot them off, which is honestly the best thing if they’re not going to commit her indefinitely.

Never been too squeamish but the 'tendon/nerve' and the rotting flesh under the spoilers on this page alone threatened my gag-reflex just fine.
It's really tough not to click them out of morbid curiosity. Kelly is an absolute lost cause and a waste of grafts and gauze. She'll never know what it is to be 'well', neither physically nor mentally.

There’s no helping her. Even with neuropathy, even with narcotics, if you dug an entire nerve out of a limb, the pain would be unmeasurable. She’s too far gone.
I’m stunned. How much more of this is she going to be able to endure before the sweet embrace of septicemia ends her suffering. Yeah, she did this to herself but she did it to herself because she’s mentally ill in a way that not even the psychiatric community is able to deal with. I don’t want to dehumanize Kelly but this is a type of crazy that is a thing apart from the rest of humanity.
