Vinesauce

I was haunted by that video the first time I saw it. The face and the voice do NOT line up, and it's weird to experience them in conjunction with one another. It still weirds me out to this day.

Unfortunately the original was about an hour and 50 minutes (I joined later during the stream back then, so it may have been longer).

I never managed to catch a Joel facecam stream, but I've heard long dead rumors about them. They sort of echo the Vineyard to me - rare, elusive, and shown only to those lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. What an experience. (Incidentally, is the Vineyard really dead? Or did they just tell people it was to keep the numbers low?)

The Vineyard isn't dead, the link just changed. Back in 2015 it was a bit more open to everyone, but the newcomers couldn't handle that some people who've been in the Vineyard for longer decided to go on about their usual gore spam / epic 4chan copypastas, which Joel was used to and basically didn't do anything about other than say "huh? Someone's being edgy? Well, focus on the movie", this was one of his 90s JoJo Vineyard streams (shortly before the drunk JoJo stream happened). After that incident, the links have been constantly changed and Joel has been very unclear about whether or not he wants more people inside or go back to only allowing a few in, so we've got this mess going on where the Vineyard link is sometimes posted in chat by Anthro, sometimes people get banned for posting it and sometimes you can just find the Vineyard by looking it up in Google. Sometimes it's gonna be password protected (they use randomly generated passwords) and sometimes it'll be free access. It's always been obscure, but for the last 2 years or so it's like he doesn't know what to do with it anymore.

To my knowledge, there's only been 3 Joel facecam streams. One very short one when he was setting up, one where it was just a general talk with chat (back then when his number didn't go higher than 200-300 people at most) and then the one I linked. Most people are bullshitting about what happened during Joel's facecam streams because they can get away with it since the archives of it are gone, but it was just him being silly in front of the cam, talking about oldschool Pantera, drinking alcohol and laughing his ass off at some of the special individuals in chat.

Off-topic, but I'm somewhat happy that Joel isn't making the big YouTube/Twitch bucks. Not because I don't think he deserves it (he does), but because I'm starting to doubt his gambling problems are only in video games.

I thought that was just a rumor /v/ made up. Link to the stream with timestamp?

I just looked and it's not in my watch history anymore, I suppose that means it got taken down/unlisted?
Vappyvap uploaded it and it was around the 2 hours and 37 minute mark if you find it, he was reading a ton of curse words from a generator and one of them happened to be nigger, it was the same stream where Vinny talked about being at a bar and meeting a stoned girl if that helps. (I'm not too good with my Pokémon since I don't care about it, but I believe it was a Pokémon Moon stream considering that it was in 2017)

By the way, does anyone remember Stupidface?
I wonder what happened to him.

but at least the Pokémon stream where Vinny says nigger is still out there.

And this gem of Vinny with a virus that spat out random sounds, and he or Commie mishears "Sam Higgins" as "sup niggas"

Ah, 2012.

Vinny's Minecraft stream last night was really great. It was fun seeing chat calling him a psycho and threatening to leave the stream because he was being himself and some of the new viewers apparently can't handle that/understand his Beatles references.
Can you imagine if the minecraft streams will quietly turn off many of the new spergs viewers, because Vinny starts acting again like Vinny? a bit farfetched, but it would be great if his community would get at least 30-40% less toxic, because right now you'd find at least 5 lolcows per hour in the chat only, let alone the discord server(s, if the two sub-only servers are still a thing).

I'm starting to doubt his gambling problems are only in video games.
Same. He shown some distinct signs of easily having gambling problems. Remember the GTA San Andreas streams?
Especially in Las Venturas, he kept betting to the point of being boring (and me spamming the right arrow on youtube to skip a bit of it, he kept losing and I think chat was almost begging him to move on with the game. It was unbearable after a bit).
He also talked about it, if I'm not mistaken.

My late grandpa had the same gambling problems (to the point of betting his own houses). A friend of his told me was that if he was still alive (better: "if he was born nowadays") seen games like GTA, he would've spent the majority of time betting in that game too.

By the way, does anyone remember Stupidface?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S41vNSoGfsk I wonder what happened to him.
I miss Guest streams. Remember when vinesauce would've also let some chat member stream too? now it would've been impossible to do, due to the amount of lgbt\sjw idiocy in chat

Ah, 2012.
I miss the time span from 2010 to early 2016 so much. Not only about Vinesauce, but about internet in general.

Honestly, it's just funny that out of all the games he plays Minecraft is the one that angers chat the most because of his commentary and in-game animal abuse lmao.

Yeah, that's basically what happened. When someone's spending 10 minutes in GTA to gamble then it's fun, but if Joel's still doing it after chat is begging him to stop for 40 minutes straight he miiiight have a problem. If I recall correctly he had a gambling problem in Yakuza and God Hand too. And... basically any other game where gambling is possible. It's crazy, but I hope he has himself under control in real life.

Also, sorry about your grandpa.

I think guest streamers have been replaced by channel raids at this point.

It's probably irresponsible to say, but I miss Drunk Joel streams more than anything. He hasn't done one in a really long time, and I can imagine there's a number of reasons for it - it's not safe, it's not healthy, it's too expensive, it's just boring or too much work, whatever. I can understand that, and I certainly wouldn't expect him to do them regularly - but once or twice every few months would really make my day. Drunk Joel is so delightfully obnoxious that I always find myself cheering along with him.

Drunk Vinny would be great to see too, but in all honesty, I never caught many of his drunk streams, and the only one I actively remember is Drunk CS:GO, where he honestly didn't seem to be that drunk.

I agree. His San Andreas streams, while fun, would start to get really depressing once he wandered into the casino or to the horse betting place. I don't know how much of it was him playing it up for the stream, and how much was a reflection of a genuine issue, but it would definitely start to make me uncomfortable watching him continue to gamble after the 3rd or 4th big loss.

I thought that was just a rumor /v/ made up. Link to the stream with timestamp?

It's not. Someone linked it a few pages back. (Unless there's another clip out there of him saying the n-word in a different stream; if so, WEW)

Peak Vinesauce for me is late 2010/early 2011 to late 2013/very early 2014. Their old editing style is very much a time capsule for the era, in a way that's simultaneously awful and endearing. A lot of their old jokes definitely didn't age well, but their love for streaming and the genuine fun they were having doing it is palpable the further back you go. This crossover stream between Joel and Fred is a hidden gem that not nearly enough people know or talk about - it's so old that it's from the era when Joel's channel was still just a general Vinesauce channel.

On that subject, I always wondered why Vinny chose to move his stuff to a new channel instead of having Joel do so, since most of the older videos from the shared Vinesauce channel are primarily Vinny's. My guess is that - and correct me if I'm wrong - because Joel used to be the main editor for Vinny's old stuff (alongside Vinny himself, and DemEngineerz), it made more sense for Joel to just repurpose the channel for himself and for Vinny to take his own material elsewhere, to a channel that was presumably his old personal one (going off of the oldest videos) before he rebranded it.

That was doable when their views would cap at 500 viewers a night, and chat moved slow enough for them to actually talk to people and get to know them. You could make connections, add a few people into some games, have a good time with a one-off guest and maybe, if they were lucky, make them a regular. Nowadays, it would be impossible, and it has nothing to do with chat being toxic or anything - the sheer number of people who would clamor at the opportunity to have Daddy Vinny and Daddy Joel notice them would just make it too difficult to navigate.

Just look at what happened with the Active Worlds stream - so many people tried to register for the site at once that it essentially DDOS'd the servers and barred EVERYONE from access. And that was in 2016. Imagine that, but with his numbers significantly higher than they were back then. I miss the guest streams too, and the much higher interaction between streamer and follower - but it's just not realistic with the numbers they're pulling now. I'm sure that's a blessing and a curse.

I remember the Half-Life mod streams, namely the ones where they were making pizzas and one guy, BarrelsO'Fun, gained something of a following and would appear in a few other multiplayer streams. Those days are sadly long over, just too many people for anyone to gain notoriety.

True, I agree with you.
Although I think of this more of a curse for Vinny, since he wanted to have more interaction with the chat, but since chat now is just a spergfest of messages like "NOTICE ME DADDY REEE SAY TRANS RIGHTS XDDDD" I can see why both Vinny and Joel would simply close the twitch chat and just keep interacting with some subscribers and mods. It's sad, because they'll end up with brainless sheeps that are there just to lick their boots, and will lose interactions with actual humans. Like the one between Joel and Saisegeha's.

Back when I was frequenting the discord server, I really hated how Jen (and mods) kept defending those people like they were actually endangered or something. I mean, fuck off already, they can defend and argue for themselves without having thousands of lawyers speaking for them. Jen really turned into something else, I swear. I do understand doing that because of avoiding a twitter lynching, if that's the case, but again, it's still them (not so much) silently taking a side and quietly alienate their actual fandom.

She kind of even abandoned the main server, from what I gathered.
When I was dropping the server entirely, I noticed her interactions becoming more and more sporadic as time went on (and more aggressive), back in mid 2018, I can imagine now that she'd probably muted that spergfest of a discord server entirely now. But that's was totally called for, since both her and their mods kept shutting down arguments and counter-arguments against the actual toxic people in that server, which are now what they're left with.
Again, what I'm still annoyed by was when me and chat were finally discussing something decent about youtube turning into shit and the exploitation of both the ad revenue and the users by some youtubers, but then we kind of derailed into talking about matpat and crew's nonsensical theories, like the "Doom isn't 3d" (but it was 3d, you dumb fuck) and how his channel was pretty much only FNAF and Undertale's theories and how the thumbnails were getting more and more ridiculous. Since some kid liked his channel he went crying to a mod which shut down the discussion as a whole and I got called "toxic" because I said that it was a childish behaviour and nobody was forcing it into agreeing with what we were saying.

True. That's also what I miss about vinesauce, when they were a bit more niche, and especially their pre-twitch content, even if livestream was a shit server, it gave more of that "community" feeling. The forums were kinda nice, and the chatango chat was cool to see with all the pretty colouring due to banners and people's customization (something that discord said would've had, but never kept that promise. like the plugin's workshop. remember that? now plugins are worth a permaban, what the fuck.)

It was like the ZF clan (SovietWomble's clan), or Starcat's community. I hope they won't explode in popularity like Vinesauce (namely: Vinny's and Joel's channels), just to preserve how they are right now.
by that I don't mean that they shouldn't be famous, since both are pretty famous, but that they won't get to the point of choosing to ditch their true\old fanbase for a bigger but more autistic one which'll lead them to inevitably drop in quality. I hope I clarified that.

Sorry for sperging, but I'm pretty much grieving at this point for that community.
Especially after seeing all the content I lost, because I started watching in 2013, and even back then, the community was still at least two times better than the one they're now left with.
I recall Fred and Joel being in the public server, now they probably retreated in their own or the sub-only one.
Oh Geewiz, I truly do wonder why, there are worse examples, but try to interact with that community for five minutes and you will be able to hear your synapses dropping.

To be fair, Joel still calls people out on their shit. This was when some tranny in chat said she's getting death threats because people didn't like her art and were transphobic earlier this year, but then it turned out she stole art from someone who's rather well known on the Vinesauce booru and Joel got tired of her whole "I'm threatening suicide if you don't notice me Joel" crap.

I'm fairly excited for the charity stream tomorrow, in particular what Joel's gonna do. However, if it's a destruction stream the viewership age is gonna drop to 12 again, so be ready for that.

Edit:
Just checked the schedule. VineWrestle tomorrow.

I don't remember the exact date on when I was really into Vinesauce but it was definitely around the shared channel + chatango phase, maybe a year or two before twitch. Back when they still had autopilot after the stream ended and nobody was around to pick it up yet. Those were relatively way more chill days. Pretty sure the first Gachi I ever saw was via vinesauce autopilot, good times.

When it comes to chat interaction, the smaller audience and Chatango hugely helped I feel. Mostly because of the fact that, like @JimmerSnail said, people could have individual stylings for their posts. This included a visible avatar, message background and custom text color. It made it quite easy to determine who was who in chat, and who the regulars were 'cause you'd see their stylings often. Compared to twitch, this is almost impossible to replicate. With viewer numbers being so high chat would be unreadable and I'd put $500 on there being at least 200 regular viewers with trans flag chat backgrounds typing in all pink (so girly amirite?).

I'd say chatango and the livestream era of vinesauce was way more preferable but that comes at the cost of Vinny's current liveliness. His evolution over time from being a previously fairly deadpan and flat kinda guy in most streams I remember to now where he quacks, squirks and shrieks I'd personally miss because I find it hilarious like the child I am.

At this point I'd say if Vinny actually wants to interact with chat he'd need to use the twitch rooms feature which I've only ever seen used once and the chat there sucked. There was a subs only chat room for a streamer which meant all the subs sick of randoms would head there, and a few subs would stay around in the main chat cause sub circlejerking is less fun. Anyways, that's pretty much the only thing I can think of in terms of interaction. It beats sub-only mode because you lose twitch chat's ridiculous nature without a few randoms and plebs spamming emotes. It's not a good solution, it's frankly a shit solution but it's all I can think of for the moment.

I don't watch any of the vinesauce streamers regularly at this point, I only ever drop in if something interesting is happening. Fullsauce is my go-to these days for specific games Vinny plays. I hope either Vin or Joel put their foot down about the spastic community but I'm fairly doubtful. Twitch shot itself in the foot with the pride emotes hardcore. Can't remove them or people screech, streamers can't ban them in their chat cause that sends "muh intolerance" message, even though it shits chat up too much. R9k mode is also never the answer imo.

Has anyone took a look at that Jerma guy that Vinny streamed Red Dead with? What's the story with him besides them both being in the NY/Boston area?

I can already imagine the troons making this about themselves. I guess it's not entitlement that they hate, so much as not being the center of attention.
They already did, they made Rev say trans right about 3 times on stream.
Currently Joel's stream is rather calm but Jerma's chat doesn't mix well with this one at all.

These flags are absolute cancer. I’ve seen them spawn on Tumblr in real time (i.e it really is just a case of making stuff up and getting lucky enough to gain traction) and I can’t believe places give it acknowledgement as if it’s the same thing as the Red Cross or the breast cancer awareness ribbon, and those aren’t spammed because it’s never as cool as broadcasting how much of a faggot you are.

Jerma's chat
Oh boy, Poor Jerma. I guess he will now have to bend the knee and kill off all of his memes because they're 'uffenzive hurr'

Welp, not even just timeouts now. Some are even obnoxious enough to say that this is a trans charity stream now, holy shit. :story:

What? Wow, that's just retarded, they should mute both sides if they'd actually want to stop the arguing, lol.
