Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Antarctic's not-Mary Marvel, Mary Miracle. Please don't sue. Original Character, Do Not Steal.

Wow, they even got the cape and lightning symbol on the chest... really playing with fire there. Made it to issue 3 though, so I guess they're feeling lucky.
It’s also sweet that Zack thinks Batman will ever enter public domain.
Ssshhh, let him dream

Said it weeks ago that this thread will get ridiculous the moment EVS entered the fray because you know the crazies would follow suit. At least it could have been entertaining at if Cecil came along.

Edit : @KingofNothing Captain Marvel has longer hair now? And actually looks feminine? Huh?
It was nice getting some insight from him for that brief period of time before the autistic morlocks dragged him into the mud...actually, that's not quite true. He eagerly jumped in with them when he probably should have just ignored them.

It will. But only the original original detective comics version at first.

Same with Mickey. Disney's losing the rights to the steamboat Willie version of Mickey Mouse in a few years. Every other version is a separate copyright and has different timings

I’ll just say I’ll believe it when I see it. Disney and WB will find a way to justify keeping these under copyright somehow.

His fatal flaw.

I think they got a C&D from DC. That issue was supposed to have come out in June, but it didn't and the Mary Miracle cover is noticeably absent in a lot of the old solicitations.

Definitely think it’s exciting from a kid in a toy store perspective, but very few of these projects go anywhere big. They keep trying with the Green Hornet and Zorro and no one ever cares, so why would it be different with Zack writing them?

It wouldn't because I don't think Zack is good enough to breathe new life into old characters, but there are a lot of interesting examples out there. Here's a few off the top of my head:

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Comic. It takes old public domain comics, changes the dialogue and adds the robots. Its not high art, but its still an interesting way to utilize public domain works.

Puss in Boots from the Shrek films. They took Zorro and made him a cat. He was a breakout character in those films and got his own movie and tv show. (I know Puss is a fairy tale character, but this Puss is clearly a Zorro rip-off)

Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Public domain characters used to create something completely new and unique. Never read it myself, but people seemed to like it. Might as well throw in Fables, too, since its conceptually very similar.

...how? To whom are they losing that copyright to?
In theory, copyright expires a whopping 95 years after publication, but in practice Disney and DC have prevented any of their properties from lapsing into public domain through a series of legal maneuvers over the years.

I think they got a C&D from DC. That issue was supposed to have come out in June, but it didn't and the Mary Miracle cover is noticeably absent in a lot of the old solicitations.
If they don’t contest copyright duration, I suppose this is the route they’ll take to make it financially ruinous to try to print your own Batman stories.

She went back to the long hair during "Life of Captain Marvel", right around the time the movie came out.....which is funny since Endgame went with the short hair. But yeah, Carol Danvers looks like herself again instead of a twink.
Unpopular opinion, but having served in the military, I had no problem with short hair Carol. She's supposed to be an Air Force officer, so it worked for me. Adam Hughes proved it could work.

Not a fan of it myself though it is amusing that people seem to assume she's a man or a lesbian when they see Kris Anka art of her. I think it's worth pointing out that Carol hasn't actually been an air force pilot since the early Mar-Vell days, most of her history she's been living off Avengers checks with no attempts at a career beyond the two jobs in publication she had for a bit.

"Air Force pilot" is a neat tidbit but chances are she wasn't in it for long. Kinda like how old Avengers comics make a big deal about Captain America's experience as he's from WW2......even though he only had like 3 years on everyone and might as well be as green as the rest of them.

Funny that she's supposed to have been a colonel. By statute, that requires at least 22 years of service, with most not being promoted until around 25 years of service. So Carol should probably be about 50.

The overwhelming majority of women I served with did not have short hair because they're allowed to tie it back into a bun (even those who work in close proximity to rotating machinery, with sometimes hilarious/dangerous results). I'm not sure about the Air Force, but the Navy doesn't even make women cut their hair in basic training anymore. Elaborate weaves, braids and dreadlocks are more common than butch short haircuts.

From a quick perusal of their standards, the Air Force is even more lax on long hair for female uniform standards:

Longer hair is allowed to get pinned up so long as it is secured and does not extend upward on the head.

It is difficult to cover every single female hairstyle in one policy though there are some more common ones that are addressed.

Hair in a bun is allowed, so long as it is only one bun as well as no wider than the width of the head. All loose ends must also get tucked in and secured.

Ponytails are also authorized. Once again, it must only be a single ponytail and one that does not exceed the bulk and length standards of the U.S. Air Force. It also must not extend below the bottom of the collar.

The underlining rule of all female hairstyles in the Air Force is they must present a “neat and professional image”. If you can follow that golden rule, along with other Air Force hair regulations you should be okay.

Hair accessories (hairpins, combs, clips, headbands, etc) are authorized if they match the present hair color. The accessory must also not alter the hair enough that it would no longer comply with bulk and appearance expectations.

Braids are permitted with specific requirements. Hair extensions can only be used if they match the natural hair color. The Air Force defines these hairstyles as authorized if “conservative” and “within reasonable limits”. Also “not excessive or extreme”.

GI Jane was just a movie.

I don't follow this thread much but i trust our user's judgement. I also hate "notice me sempai" behavior. I would like it if every instance of it from the last 2 days was reported so i can threadban those taking part in it. There are people who enjoy this content and youre shitting it up arguing with a tard. you wont stop arguing with the tard so you must be a tard as well.

True there's a lot of bunheads, but the pixie cut was also very popular when I was in for females that wanted to rock a little bit of a punk rock attitude in their civvies. Lot of them had full sleeves and interesting piercings, too.

Remember when she tried to pull rank on Captain America to order him to do some shit against the UCMJ and Geneva Convention?

Peppridge Farms remembers.

Back when I was in, back in the day, the majority of enlisted females had short hair while officers were the Bun Patrol.
