Trump prevented them from going on a spin job campaign by pre-emptively having Barr clear him.
The whole gameplan was to drop the report and basically cherrypick shit to push the impeachment narrative and bully GOP Senators to defy McConnell on impeachment. If not also, to create such a huge stink that forces McConnell to throw Trump to the wolves, under the notion that if they leave Pence alone as Trump's successor, that McConnell would go along with the coup so long as a Republican still sits in the White House.
Mueller himself seems to have been in on the fix: he never had a smoking gun but was expecting the Democrats to do all of the heavy lifting/spinning for him as part of their corrupt bargain. That way, he can claim innocents (never officially saying Trump broke the law) but leaving a circumstantial evidence trail of bread crumbs to allow the Democrats to independently say he did break the law.
As it stands, they want Mueller to testify simply to basically do what the unwashed masses wanted him to say; so the House Democrats can justify launching an impeachment proceeding. Because the water's so muddied, they have to have something like Mueller outright screaming "LOCK HIM UP!!!!!" to have a chance to give their coup that thin layer of credibility to the world.
The lunatic left want impeachment as their cover for their coup and Pelosi knows they only have one fucking chance at it. Pelosi and company also are banking on the Watergate Effect that constantly gets mentioned by those defending Pelosi not jumping straight to impeachment.
In Watergate, it took months of televised hearings to force the public to go along with the anti-Nixon agenda and that was back during the days when you had only CBS/NBC/ABC/PBS as television channels. Worse, now you have the internet and Fox News; the later of which the Republicans can count on to forever cockblock any narrative push by the lunatic left amongst the cable/network news outlets.
And furthermore, if McConnell DOES fall in 2020, then the Democrats will be able to exploit the power vaccuum in the Senate to pick off the necessary super-majority. Even if McConnell DOES win, the Democrats will be in a situation where a second Trump term means they won't have anything to lose quadrupling down on the lunatic left. Because they have already lost and will have nothing to lose whatsoever if they go full insane tripling down on their treason narrative. Especially since, the mainstream media is most definitely pro-impeachment if only for the ratings angle.
Their leverage is:
1. If they get rid of McConnell, they probably hope to exploit the vacuum that would create and let them flip the necessary GOP Senators needed to turn on Trump
2. The wounded animal gambit; where the Democrats will have nothing left to lose if Trump gets re-elected and go all scorched earth on the nation.
The later would also tie into the hypothetical notion that Pelosi would spare Pence, under the logic that A. Pence is a fundie and as such, predictable in terms of how the Democrats will route him and his agenda and B. the leverage they can push by claiming they only want to eliminate Trump and will spare Pence in exchange for the GOP cooperating in the coup.
While members of the lunatic left would prefer the Democrats find SOME way to get rid of Pence and Trmp together in one fell swoop, Pelosi would fall into the category of seeing Pence as a lesser evil and that at the end of the day, she can convince enough GOP big wigs to betray Trump so long she allows Pence to then take power for the rest of his term.

I recall reading a piece by Mark Twain which made fun of the works of James Fenimore Cooper. He was well justified in doing so. Cooper was a hack, and if he had not been one of a very few Americans actively writing books early in our history, no one would ever have heard of him.
One of the passages Twain singled out for criticism was a large tribe of native Americans who were attempting to board and attack a riverboat. This riverboat was quite long and large, at least in some of the scenes, and the natives were hanging out in trees above the river. The boat passed directly beneath them. It should have been a very simple matter to drop from the branches onto the boat.
The first native to try it somehow manages to miss the boat, drowning in its wake.
The next native does exactly the same thing.
The entire bunch proceeds to drown like rats in a trap, all of them missing this unmissable boat.
At the time, Twain derided this as unrealistic and silly.
Apparently Cooper was right on this one point. People will in fact do something exactly like that.

The only problem with Ivanka is that she has less media exposure than her brothers. She also doesn't have their trollish ways. (DonJr, at least, I don't know about the other one). That's what made people follow Trump, that he's not afraid to speak the truth.
Ivanka, otoh, is a liberal (although a sane one) and I think she's more PC.
It could work if they sell her image as a mom.

They'll have to win the Senate out from under the GOP to get the votes, are you arguing the only thing keeping the Senate majority right now from caving in and giving the Dems what they want, despite the fact it's a decent majority, is Cocaine Mitch? And if he's pulled out, the entire Senate will just throw up their hands and say "Whelp, guess we can't resist anymore?" Not buying that. They are not going to kowtow to Dems if they only manage to oust their figurehead..... the Never-Trumpers who might have caucused with the Dems are long-gone. Who, exactly, is going to "flip"? I want names of who would just up and say "sure, I'll sell out my party now, I have to, the Dems obviously run this place" when they are the majority party..... it's not going to happen. The Senate has NO reason to turn on Trump. None.

If Trump wins handily, Hell, if he wins at ALL be it EC or popular, it is OVER and they know it. The only ones left willing to go scorched Earth are going to be the super ultra-left commies like The Squad.
Success at that point would require incredibly forcible demand for such on the part of the public that, on face-value, if Trump just WON REELECTION is NOT GOING TO BE THERE. Attempting to nakedly say "Fuck You" to the public at that point and oust him would be a true Democrat extinction event. I don't doubt they'd go kamikaze if they were facing obliteration as a party, but like real-life Kamikaze, it wouldn't change the outcome, it would just be an ideologically pleasing way for the "pilots" to go out, ineffectively smashing into the indestructible granite edifice of DRUMPF!
Their only "good" shot at impeachment ended when the Mueller probe fizzled out. And every day since, the odds of success keep trending downward.

I don't think I'd vote for any of the Trump descendants, but I'd love if they started that media network that was rumored to be in the works if trump lost. I don't think Don Jr or Ivanka have the practical experience in dealing with people that their father does, but Don Jr is really good at pissing people off and would be in a great position to do that if he was involved in a news org.
