I feel like these are the real "dangerous blue pills"; the sort of ultra supportive internet hugboxes. These people have this idea that most people are actually really soft-hearted and understanding and you can just bond and be accepted as how you are, especially with women. They also think that anyone who doesn't act like that is an actual black-hearted damaged person, or really selfish and arrogant.
It's real hippy-dippy shit and I would say it goes beyond being optimistic or naive, it feels like they genuinely misunderstand how humans work. Not in that cynical "people are mean, dumb and selfish" way but like a very real social and emotional kind of way. It's pretty sad.

The ability to view other peoples' opinions and beliefs with some degree of empathy and nuance is called "integrative complexity". People with binary, "us vs. them" mentalities have very little of this skill, if at all. This is something all cults and political extremes regardless of affiliation have in common: a refusal to acknowledge the middle-ground.

Every year and a half you hear about some new STD popping up among gay men in the US--a couple cases here, a couple cases there, generally non-fatal. It won't stay like that forever, since young gay men have learned nothing and continue to have lots of risky sex. It won't be like the 80s, it'll be worse. Will lesbians care? A friend of mine was staying home with her son while her husband worked a corporate gig. Husband got laid off and she made a bunch of posts about being financially stressed, asking for job leads and talking about her job search, as they were both looking. Then she messaged me a bunch of caps of those exact surrogate ads. They figured out she needed $$$ fast and figured "hey, her uterus works and she's desperate, lol perfect." It was so fucking creepy, because it emphasized both the "hero to teh gay" aspect and "get cash quick" aspect--like she was going to be doing some combination of volunteering at an AIDS center and cashing in a title loan on her uterus.

That got me looking for patterns, and not long after I saw an article about some gay quasi-celeb who had a baby with a surrogate and he made some rude and ugly comment about her genitals being repulsive. The mother of his child. A straight guy doing that would be savaged by the woke patrol, but I watched as anyone who called him out got called a conservative nut. Must be a nice deal.
