It's some weird SJW bullshit that if some chick randomly hugs you, you're apparently supposed to just stand there like a rock and do nothing or else you're a rapist. You're not allowed to respond affectionately.
Agreed, but I meant the fact that he put his hand in a female friend's hair and considered it affectionate in the first place. That shows a casual relationship with physical touching which gets you in trouble, not because it's wrong, but because you don't have ingrained hesitation or reticence which might stop you in other circumstances.
Hugs are universal enough that total strangers will hug, depending on the culture. Running your fingers through someone's hair implies a lot more intimacy or friendliness. That doesn't make it sexual harassment; Jamie is full of shit. But it means your internal barometer for when it's appropriate to cross into someone's physical space is already low. I don't know how much of that is Vic, and how much of that is 20 years of con culture, but it's a signal to watch out for.
Put it this way, it's the inverse of the Mike Pence Rule. If you are meticulously, overly cautious about limiting contact that might seem inappropriate, you aren't just
avoiding the appearance of impropriety; you are training yourself against
actual impropriety. If you have a culture or a personality that does the opposite, you're opening yourself up to that kind of mistake; not as fate that it will happen, but as a risk it will happen, and certainly the risk that someone will interpret things badly.
Which is why, for the millionth time,
innocent until proven guilty is so incredibly important.
