Oh no, I know. But it's not common to all smaller towns in the country to be RCMP. Many do have local PD. You answered my question though. No Langley doesn't have local, so they use RCMP. That explains it. Anywhere with a local PD and yeah, the RCMP showing up is like the feds showing up. There's something bigger going on.RCMP is local PD. it works different here than states. Local municipalities can sign a contract with mounties to provide policing services. There are a lot of advantages and some disadvantages to having RCMP handle local policing. Generally only large municipalities see having their own police force as benefitial so like Vancouver has their own police force, I think Abbotsford does as well.
RCMP also are the federal police force so handle national cases. Outside of Ontario RCMP are also the provincial/territory police force.
I did not know that Ontario was the only province with a provincial police force though. That's interesting info.
