Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

If the Fair Use slapfight continues, I request you take it outside of this thread. Though it's an interesting topic, this isn't a TFS or Intellectual Property thread. We also have a classy lady @EriMin hanging out, and she should see our good side before she remembers where she is. You absolute faggots.

You keep that up and Hanleia will join the farms next.
Do we have anybody who was KickVic initially but got redpilled? Not just someone who took a wait-and-see approach, but somebody who completely sperged out at first? Loads have been doxed, but surely not every participant has gotten attention.

The product in question is DBZA? Dragonball Z ABRIDGED! No it is NOT Transformatine. Taking someone elses work and editing it down to condense it is not sufficiently transformative to be sufficient for Fair Use as a Defense. It isn't Parody or Satire. It isn't critique, commentary or educational purposes. It's a great example of what would likely fail the Fair Use Test. It's using the originals art to tell the originals story just pared down for time. But do go and believe what you will. We wouldn't want to shake your world views too much or accidentally tell you about Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.
I'm going to assume you've never once watched a single episode of DBZA because that's just exceptional to believe.

note: I'm going to stop here because i've laid out my arguement and if you don't like it/disagree with it, fuck it not my problem.

Judges in Texas are elected officials and under the Texas Constitution just short of them being homosexual or pedo it's nigh of no to removing them until election time.

Meanwhile as a taste of the Texas judicial system this is a county prosecutor's actual personal license plate just outside of Dallas

From what I've heard, the whole state outside of Austin is pretty red. And outside the cities, it's pretty damn rural and laid back. As for Austin...at least the Longhorns are back. Anybody have any thoughts on my Texas analysis?

Ask any normal person with a bit of knowledge of the world and they'd tell you that "Anonymous Kiwi" probably means the person is from New Zealand if there's any significance to the name at all.
Isn't a kiwi also a type of bird?

I think you may be confused by the title, my friend. It's called 'abridged' because that's the genre, and part of the joke. It is not, in fact, just an edited down version of the original. That would be 'Dragonball Kai'. Abridged is very different. If you by chance haven't seen it and you do like DBZ, I recommend you watch it some time.

I think DBZ_Kamehauk or whatever their twitter handle was. They got invited to the secret discord and then changed their mind and leaked it. I can't tell if Supergirl was just deep under cover at first, or if she just flipped early on.

Aww, y'all don't have to worry about me. I'm a tough lady, I can handle it. But I appreciate your consideration.

If you don't mind answering, who were the people pestering you enough to get you to close down the Q&A session? Or was it just in private?

It was mostly the Martin Bettik person. I was concerned that if I continued to answer questions I might be intentionally led into a question designed to produce an answer that could be misconstrued.

I'm not a fish, I don't fancy being baited.

that is exactly what they were trying to do, so they can pin a big GOTCHA moment on your story.

They have had very few of those moments, and the devastation of their prize affidavits has really hurt them.

They were wanting a win.

>She said that this incident has gone down in convention lore and that she and Travis get asked about it a lot. "When I'm 60 I'll be able to show my grandkids like, remember when mom was cool and grandma was cool and she used to drink tequila, here watch 48 videos about it."

"When I'm 60 I'll be able to show my grandkids..."
isn't this bitch over 40 already, with not a single kid in sight? i wonder where those grandkids are supposed to come from
Possibly getting boomer'd but possibly not on this one:

She may not have any biological children, but Ron has a fifteen year old son, as terrifying as that sounds. If she wants to put a ring on that, I guess she could (in theory) have grandkids, but they wouldn't be biologically related to her. Reckon we ought to celebrate the fact that only one of them has bred thus far. Both of them creating offspring is a few too many for this world to handle.

Edit: Double that if they created offspring together. Imagine Michelle McConnell's amazing ability to somehow inject her autism directly into all four of her kids. Multiply that by two for Monica, then multiply by an additional fourteen for Ron. The result is a genetic dead-end. I'd be surprised if the result lived past two, given the parentage; natural selection would probably run course.

This is Monica Rial and Travis Willingham at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2006.

Has there been any mention of travis besides this one in the forum?

I wonder if it'll get to a point where the owner of that staircase spreadsheet will finally be revealed by a subpeona. I would laugh for days.
Anyone know where can I find the spreadsheet? Asking for a friend.

Oh, I think we've noticed that. Scaring you off isn't a concern given how gracefully you've handled everything. I just used the opportunity to call you a classy lady in an otherwise unrelated, snippy post.

Swear I didn't mean to give you Faisal Ahmed flashbacks. If I made a serious plea for this place to tone police and protect delicate maidens, I'd be immediately mocked into the dirt. As it should be.

I have watched DBZA, HUA, and the others. They aren't fair use in the slightest: they make money off of what they do (Patreon, Twitch subscriptions, merchandise, etc). It would fail the Fair Use Test hands down if it was challenged by Toei. For years they were actually being hit by copyright strikes on YouTube for using it, to the point they transferred everything to an off-YouTube site they owned to get around it. Toei stopped fucking with them when they saw the interest it garnered, and probably revitalized interest in the franchise (I'm sure Funimation showed them it was happening, considering they're buddy-buddy with TFS), which means money. At the end of the day, that's what Japanese companies care about.

If it ended because they were taken to court I'd be sad because I enjoy it. But I'd also understand where the company is coming from.

Now, that's the end of this shit.

I think we've all seen Abridged. It amounts to fair use, only the extent your lawyer can put up a fight for it.

Matt Mercer earned the wrath of angry gamers because he didn't take over for Troy Baker in Tales of Vesperia because he "didnt want to be stereotyped into a Troy double" which could read as code for "I deserve a bigger career" to some. instead they got Grant George who has been universally slammed by the gaming fans and Troy stans.
What'd George do

The guy deserves death for this alone, same for anyone involved in the English dub rendition of ultimate battle. Universe 7's last stand deserves better than that dogshit version.

Meh. I can live with the Dub OP theme. Whoever did the ultimate battle theme and the Dub of 70cm Square window needs to take a trip to minecraft

Does it matter? It's not your lawsuit. At worst you'll embarrass yourself a little in front of unimportant people on the internet.

Also I'm trying to temper my expectations.

The wild optimist in me figures that once the TCPA fails, funimation will enter settlement talks. Monica and Ron will hold out a week before entering settlement talks.

Between a month or two later, Funimation issues a memo saying their investigation was flawed and they welcome Vic back. Monica gives a tearful recantation on YouTube. And Rooster Teeth hires Vic back because they fucked up.

The jaded pessimist shell that I have developed admits that Ty, Nick and the farms are right that the TCPA will fail, but Funimation will drag this out for years to the brink of bankruptcy, Monica and Ron will make some pathetic last stand when their legal counsel bows out due to unpaid bills and Jamie Marchi... Is just there I guess.

So I am oscillating between those two extremes right now.
