Community Munchausen's by Internet (Malingerers, Munchies, Spoonies, etc) - Feigning Illnesses for Attention

Autie’s previous patreon account:

It's interesting that there's no mention of her having Autism at that point. She also hadn't started claiming a bunch of chronic illness diagnoses. I guess she morphed herself into a victim over time, after realizing that people didn't give her as much attention and pity. No one's going to fund an Autism-themed photography project long-term, but boohoo'ers will definitely fund a poor unfortunate #autistic #chronicillnesswarrior #potsie.

Just the one kid. Don't worry her kid is just a prop in her grift scheme 🙄
In all fairness, it seems like her son is legitimately diagnosed with Autism. He is definitely part of the "gimme monies" scheme, though (she's just jumping on the 'tism train to get more people to pityfund her vacations). I feel bad for the kid. Must suck to have a mom who's constantly screeching at train staff. Just wait until he's a teenager...that embarrassment is going to hit tenfold compared to the normal "my parents are so embarrassing" thing.

I don't think he will have the self awareness to be embarrassed on behalf of her. Unlike Autie, her son is legitimately Autistic and unless her hand dancing up in his face and train sperging has completely fucked up his development, he's on the severe end of the spectrum.

PSA for all you /r/IF immigrants, if you're going to stick around please get in the habit of posting screenshots and archiving shit, instead of posting things like "did you guys see chronicallyspoonymunchyzebra's latest post on insta???"
“IF immigrants” I just snorted. I mean, I am one. It’s just so appropriate.

Does she already has an undergraduate degree in social work and is an RSW? Pretty ballsy move to be a member of a regulated profession and drawing attention to yourself in a way that could call into question your mental health.

Her question to Mary Frey is confusing. If she has this burning desire to prove she is being treated poorly to her mom why wouldn't she just record and play it for her mom? She believes she is going to face criminal charges for doing this ? Just use a normal voice recorder app. If she asks Like MF suggested and they say no it is a perfect red herring. makes it seem like she is so law-abiding that she would never record without permission. I can think of numerous ways that her even bringing up the topic of the legality of her recording makes her sound like a moron. If MF made her realize how imperative recording is to her health then record for fucks sakes.

Is genetic Voltaren not pretty cheap? They don't have the generic where I live so I have no clue. I think she is from MD and paying out of state tuition in CA that sounds pricey. Not this gel.
If she’s a 24 year old adult with a job why the fuck would she need to prove herself to her mom for anything? To me that’s the biggest red flag- if you’ve lost your mom you’ve lost the country (as far as people not thinking you’re full of shit.)

He’s legitimately autistic but not as severe as she makes out. There’s videos of him talking, communicating with pointing, understanding others, playing PlayStation, he writes (but be careful there some posted writing looks more like adult fakery). More able to communicate around his dad (not a surprise). His language and communication is still not to his age level but he’s not severe.

This is the main difference between treatment for POTS in North America and here in Europe (no idea on Australia/NZ). The doc told me it's an emergency treatment not a preventative treatment, and there is no evidence that regular infusions benefit patients to control daily symptoms any more than drinking that liter of water. But obviously if you feel unwell due to POTS an emergency infusion will make you feel better.

Quite honestly it’s the same in the US. There is no evidence that regular saline infusions benefits patients with POTS and high quality competent EPs, Cardios and Neuros are NOT Rx regular infusions for POTS patients in North America. I think it appears that way bc the ones fhatbdo get them act like it’s main line treatment. it isn’t - they just shopped til they found a sucker.

That’s absolutely horrifying if she tries to make him seem worse than he is for any benefit at all, be it financial, sympathy or otherwise. This is how MBP starts.

Yeah, not only is she putting on a 'tism show herself; she's also amping up his real Autism. Kids can become more functional over time, with the appropriate opportunities and techniques. It seems like she's not keen on helping him learn to participate more meaningfully with society, though. Because she has this "AUTISM IS GOOD" campaign, she would never try to help her kid be "less" Autistic...because to her, that's the only important part of his identity. Forget the fact that he could grow into a reasonably functional adult with a job and a life independent from her. She needs to be needed and she needs to be pitied. She's built an empire to fulfill both in one go...through Autism.

Her son is not that severely autistic, he speaks (i have heard him in videos repeating her abusive language to train-staff), he does design things on the computer regarding trains and cars which require a certain sophisticated motor skills, and he travels with her everywhere and to be honest, SHE is the one getting (faking) the melt-downs, he just observes it and unfortunately sometimes copies the abuse towards people who happen to be there.

She's the Autie of Schizophrenia.
I actually hadn't seen much on this woman, but this sounds like a fun thing to unpackage.

Some schizophrenia patients do have persistent hallucinations but they're never near as alarming as a fucking clown. Also, when you're having an episode of any form the reason schizophrenia is classified the way it is, is because theres a level of disconnect between what's real and what's not. For her to perfectly describe her hallucination and mind be lucid everywhere else is a big stinking alarm.

As for the accent, due to medications and so forth that schizophrenic people have to be on. Things such as speech pattern and even writing as well as typing patterns can and will change.

I've never heard of it causing an accent, but things like drawls and slurring can appear.

Visual hallucinations are uncommon in schizophrenics, regardless. It usually presents as paranoid ideation combined with grandiation at first where they're unable to separate reality from the fiction their brains cooked up, and they are actually really scared about it.

If you want to LARP as a schizophrenic all day then suuure Jan. bring on the clowns.

EXACTLY. The reason WHY untreated schizophrenia can be so harmful to patients and the general public is the inability to distinguish reality from hallucinations. This is the primary reason very long term antipsychotics have been developed. (Ranging from monthly to 3-6 month long injections).

Recently, there was a case in Tennessee where a man ran over (and killed) a woman and child because an auditory hallucination told him the woman was carrying meth and poisoning the baby with it. There was another similar case in Oregon. The whole reason schizophrenics frequently need inpatient treatment, especially in the early days is because of the real ness of hallucinations and the inability to recognize they aren’t real. I would love to see some more munchies take up schizophrenia though. Those drugs are no fucking joke and if you’ve ever encountered anyone with tardive dyskinesia, you will thank the stars you didn’t get the schizophrenia genes. Anybody know of notable cases of faking schizophrenia to avoid criminal repercussions?

None of them are famous, but when I worked psych in prison I had inmates all the time who faked mental illness to get out of trouble. Schizophrenia was the most commonly faked one, because in their mind, we can't see that they're not hallucinating so we're just supposed to believe them. I did have an inmate who faked schizophrenia in front of a judge and completely snowed him. We were laughing our asses off at what an idiot this judge was, as this inmate was clearly not mentally ill. In almost every case I had, they weren't schizophrenic or otherwise crazy. They were just assholes. I've never seen more people diagnosed malingering than I have in corrections.

As far as notable cases go, there was a mob boss who faked schizophrenia for years. Interestingly most serial killers will claim insanity in court in an attempt to be found not guilty. This is quite the rabbit hole to go down. This is my first time posting a link so apologies in advance if I fuck it up.

Apparently Autie is going around threatening people in the autistic community. The woman she’s discussing in this screengrab has her own set of issues but generally isn’t as bad as Autie. She’s off limits on autistic twitter tho bc clearly her son has such severe issues and she’s advocating for herself by picking fights on public transit... it’s like she’s immune from criticism bc they’re scared she’ll fight them too.

The main person calling Autie out for this is awful herself and has a long history (Neurodivergent Rebel if any of you are so inclined lol) but she’s also claiming Autie has threatened her and is forming an exposé about her as well. Idk how true any of this is tho they’re all habitual liars

psychiatric Munchausen is a real thing! I'd look around tumbler for point two seconds. I'm sure it's hard to distinguish between hypochondria and munchausen though in cases of teens.

Part of it is that in Current Year there's a whole lot of incentive since we no longer warehouse crazy people in institutions or gouge out parts of their brain with an ice pick. Claiming to have BPD or whatever is a low-risk way to make yourself untouchable because it's Not Your Fault™ that you did something shitty. Since we're never ever allowed to question someone's diagnosis in coddle culture, claiming it without the diagnosis is as good as having it. Better, even. You get the carte blanch to be an asshole without the distressing lack of control over your own emotions. Claiming PTSD means everyone has to handle you with kid gloves and be extra super nice to you and you can throw public temper tantrums when someone makes a loud noise around you and you can bring your barely trained pet dog to Walmart with you. Etc etc.

Personal theory is that all of it's a social contagion. If you read medical journals they're all quick to note that Factitious Disorder is very rare and doctors should always err on the side of caution before giving someone that diagnosis, but a quick hashtag hunt will show a seemingly endless parade of people claiming the same vague problems with no "hard" tests to verify them, the same toys and hospital selfies, and and the same giant plot holes in their stories.

So what gives? These girls we talk about didn't suddenly wake up one day and decide that they really want a port, a feeding tube, and a wheelchair for no reason. I guarantee the lion's share of them start off with physical symptoms caused by anxiety, depression, aging/growing/developing, disordered eating, or what have you, that show up during their scary tumultuous adolescent years. They see on social media and in "news" sites like The Mighty that other people with their symptoms get these radical interventions, asspats, and don't have to work or be an adult, and that it often takes them years of doctors telling them its in their heads before they're "correctly" diagnosed. When their doctor instead suggests they stop drinking energy drinks, get a good night's sleep, take an SSRI, and try meditating, it triggers this cycle where they want to prove they're as sick as they claim to be. So many of them are totally transparent about this, saying things like "he doesn't think I'm sick enough for a feeding tube? Well I'll just have to keep losing weight until I'm sick enough for him!" as if that is a completely rational sentiment because to them it is: they're suffering, they think they need this treatment, therefore starving themselves for a few weeks to hasten the problem is no big deal. Others of them have real eating disorders that come with manipulative behavior to protect the disorder as a symptom and therefore getting diagnosed with a rare stomach condition that causes them to be unable to eat through no fault of their own is very attractive. But 10 years ago no one was getting these interventions because it wasn't yet plastered all over social media.

Did a dog claw up your phone, mate.

100% agreed with this.

Have you ever looked up the demographic data for patients diagnosed with POTS? Female, white, middle-class, good insurance, eating disorders...

A whole hell of a lot of cash for doctors who play along and don't tell them to just fucking start a resistance training regimen.

We have a thread on a true and honest paranoid schizophrenic woman: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/gail-chord-schuler-gabrielle-chana.521/

She has a Youtube channel and her delusions are based around that she thinks the Jesuits are out to kill her and she writes bizarre books which generally feature Brent Spiner. Her videos are outrageous but at the same time it's kind of sad how her mental illness has affected her life.

I think schizophrenia is one of those illnesses that everyone thinks is easy to fake because of the way it's portrayed on tv and in movies. That's not at all what it's like, looking at Gail's and Terry A Davis's youtube videos you can get some idea though of how it really affects people.
