The scientific method in the sense we know it came about around the roaring 20s, or at least gained serious traction. Empiricism, Baconianism, and Naturalism all had their day along the way (and still have their adherents).
Bad hypothesis for hypothesis testing is still a thing. When you start with a strong assumption (and no strong basis to accompany it), the outcomes can be disastrous. If you think otherwise, you're welcome to try to justify the entire field of Gender Studies as it stands today (notwithstanding that Gender Studies could be a serious and valid field -it just isn't).

I think there are quite a lot of people helping here who would go "well, hold on, if everything required for consent was present, that would include intelligence, knowledge, and articulated desire". You seem to mistake disgust for validated motivation. I'm sure many people will validate that for you, but I'm also sure the opinion is one that is, at best, controversial. (There's a case to be made of an alien species etc that would have parallels to the supposition you asserted. That doesn't exist in the real world with real animals.)

I am not doing this out of disgust for the notion of interspecies sex. Approximately 100 species were/are on record as committing interspecies sex; it is not some foreign thing to the animal kingdom. (No, this is not a naturalist fallacy - more that here is something I know which causes me to not be disgusted.)
I am doing this out of disgust for people who are clearly mistreating animals and want to be cheered on. It's not hard to say that some situations are clearly rape, and that there's not a bat's chance in hell we could, even under ideal circumstances in the real world, say that consent is present. A few too many bad days at the office watching monstrosities occur will make anyone snap and decide they're doing something about it. If doing some of the legwork in my free time is it, so be it.
