That's old news.
They had the gay Aquaman in the Teen Titans comics for a while, which was based off of the Young Justice cartoon series. And to be honest, he was an interesting character. Not strong enough to hold his own book but as part of this ensemble team, he was good.
What the woke-crowd or those pretending to be woke [who actually see gays and POC as pets or some form of currency] should be asking is, if representation is so important to them, how come Aqualad hasn't been seen in the comics for well over a year?

The way I see it, Comicsgate is (or at least should be) like an avant garde-like movement, similar to modern art and conceptual art in fine art. Sure, there may be a couple of people who are more well known in Comicsgate, like how in modern art there's Picasso and Van Gogh, but ultimately Comicsgate is just a general movement by people who don't like what's happening in the comics industry right now.

It's sorta hard to see if Comicsgate is truly dead. That's like saying whether painting is dead; it depends on how others view Comicsgate and what it means.

Here's the deal:

Comicsgate sprung from a demand for counterculture content created by the Big 2's failure to connect with their audience. D&C was one of the first people to fill that demand, but many others followed. Two years later, there are now dozens of people creating Comicsgate content. Most are copying D&C's or The Quartering's style, and early adopters (D&C, Ethan, YF and TUG) have a clear advantage in the marketplace. What we're seeing now--the so-called "death" of Comicsgate--is merely stagnation in growth because we've reached something of a saturation point for Comicsgate content. People have their favorites, and following more than one or two content creators is pointless because they all reiterate the same points in the same manner.

Stagnation can be permanent, but it can also set the stage for disruptive elements to come along and reenergize/reshape the market. Just like Ya Boi influenced a lot of people and changed the way we discussed comics on youtube, some random schlub can come along and do it all over again at any time.

In all likelihood, Comicsgate will never die. It will merely evolve as new content creators change the way we view the movement.

I disagree all these autistic gates are flash in the pan moments that are entirely dependent on the current cultural zeitgeist.

In a decade or two this stuff will be seen the same way people look at shit like hippies.

I doubt it. I have extensively archived fat boy Doyle's tweets and he's never begged for money. He's a piece of shit but his mailbox IS nicer than the raccoon hotel rub and TUG has.

A lot of indie publishing has been demystified - and would be creators have a chance to network with each other and try their hands.

There’s a variety of websites and YouTubers promoting Indie Books - if you have an interesting story to tell - it’s possible.

People who are doing the YouTube route have to fill the inbetween spaces with something.

I’m not trying to derive income from YouTube - so it’s an easy choice to just follow my own interests. I have a small audience but they aren’t outrage addicts and they support art and books - so I’m happy.

I can’t justify spending much or any time raging at “SJWs”, if you create nodes of infrastructure that makes disordered people irrelevant in any event.

TBF that's largely thanks to shit like Scooby Doo and That 70s Show rehabilitating their image in pop culture.

Today when people think of hippies they think of Shaggy or Hyde/Leo.

In the actual 70s though hippies were largely seen the same as SJWs are now.

In fact this decade has some eerie parallels with the 60s/70s.

Mike was nursing a grudge over that, and I was aware of it.

Mike and Edwin both came to me in private, having seen evidence that WC were doxxing people and subjecting them to weird "tribunals", and I needed to join them in denouncing them. I asked to see the evidence, and they both refused to show it to me. "You just gotta trust us, brother. We'd trust you."

That's when the first livestream happened, when I told everyone in general, equally, to knock it off.

Then the guy who provided Mike and Edwin with the evidence came to me, and revealed most of what they had: "Praetorian", who was a big part of WC last year, but had kind of faded away, let me know that he was feeling terrible guilt about what he'd done, so he was flipping on WC. He apologized to me, and revealed that he was personally responsible for almost every confusing bit of bullshit that happened to ComicsGate last year, including obsessively stalking Sashi, and creating the "ComicsGate Anon" account that warned me that Nerkish was going to be doxxed.

"Praetorian", who is Jewish, was furious that Nerkish's Discord was filled with edgelord Holocaust memes. And he had some kind of problem with Sashi and others who were regulars on my livestreams. I still don't know why.

Praetorian's screenshares of private messages between him and his buddies utterly incriminated him.

His screenshares were cut off in convenient places...one of the guys talking about how he wanted to dox "Rumble Terrier" was cut right before Ro Kabir told him they don't dox, that's not our thing, we're not criminals, etc

I haven't heard Edwin's "tribunal" recording yet, and I'd be anxious to hear it. If it shed light on more individuals behaving poorly, I'd expose them.

But everyone involved has an agenda of their own, and I really don't want to get into a position where I have to play Judge Wapner to a bunch of nerds with memes on the internet.

The idea that I'm either "100% Okay With What They're Doing" or that I'm "To Some Extent Directing Them" is fucking stupid.

When I can see what they're doing, (public activity) I'm often okay with it when it involves funny memes that make fun of pros and public figures in and outside of ComicsGate.

If I were directing them to any extent, you'd have seen it by now. This garbage eventually leaks, and evidence of me directing War Campaign would be the ComicsGate equivalent of Russian Collusion. People would literally pay to see it.

I've "directed" them on two occasions that I can recall: 1. Leave Sashi alone, please. 2. Leave Popefire alone, please. Both to Ro Kabir, who acted flummoxed. No wonder, it was Praetorian that was doing it.

So...fuck it. I'm always open to EVIDENCE. And I'll need that before I condemn a regular customer of mine, which is where Praetorian finds himself now.

I personally think this is a complete misread of the situation. It almost perfectly inverts cause and effect, in the classic "wet-streets-cause-rain" fashion.

Audience demand for critics/entertainers poking fun at the woke shit that has become endemic to every single form of mass media is still there and quite strong, if my YouTube recommends are anything to go by. I have no idea what would lead you to believe otherwise.

My read is that the CG and CG-adjacent people crashing and burning are doing so because they're attempting to transition from something they were good at (critiquing comics) to something else (in most cases, making comics).

I understand the appeal since there's demonstrated to be a lot of potential profit in doing so, at least short term - I'm really not confident in the longevity of the crowdfunding + direct market comics business model once the novelty factor wears off, but that's a different discussion. The bigger issue is that, aside from D&C and (maybe) you, it doesn't seem like a lot of ex-critic YouTubers are really managing to stick the landing after making the jump into producing their own competing product. And they're wrecking their existing success in the process.

In fact, radically changing what your audience likes you doing in order to chase after a phantom new market without necessarily having the requisite experience or talent is almost exactly the problem (at least in big picture terms) that's killing DC and Marvel right now.

Doug Ernst is also switching from critic to creator. As horrible as Linkara's comic was, at least he tried to make a comic and put his money where his mouth was. The vast majority of critics seem unwilling to take that step. Now I need to go throw-up because I praised that M&M chasing tub of lard.
