Jordan Peterson really put on a new coat to get popular with the Americans. When he was living and teaching here in Canada he was never particularly religious. It seemed his books popularity totally went to his head. This and the weird obsession with trans people and the feminists - again, he never talked about this shit before. He used to make appearances on the Agenda with Steve Paikin (Canadian show) years ago and his talking points were about the economy and healthy family relationships and so on. He didn't even seem all that conservative back then either

Peterson's almost assuredly an atheist (emphasis on the lowercase 'a'), with agnostic being a distant-second possibility. His religious affectations always come across as phony, and he never staight-up describes himself as a believer in anything but the postmodern sense of "well, they're all stories, but they're true anyway, and you don't want Communism" type of non-belief that offers a dead giveaway that any profession of religiosity is fundamentally hollow.

Peterson's not the only atheist who pretends to be into religion. Obama and Trump both did the same thing (Obama was probably just happy those retards and frauds who said he was born in Kenya never mentioned that Barack Sr. was an open apostate), and it worked out easily for all three. Questioning someone's religious beliefs is almost as impolite as questioning their sexualities, but that doesn't change the fact that these people are still obviously lying, and an uncountable number of incredulous enablers are assisting them the whole way.

How do we know he's not really a Communist as well?

I don't know why the evangelism piece is needed to appeal. Canadian Conservatives already support big business and cronyism just like American counter parts. They aren't that different in a fiscal sense.

Peterson is clearly seeking personal divinity. He is appropriating Christian values as a foundation, in order to usher people to his particular sect. I've personally known his type. The type that pretend to 'work' every waking hour, to not waste a single minute of the day on petty foibles. They're always stealth megalomaniacs. At some point the holy act becomes the actor and they start believing their own mantra. It makes it much easier to grow the new religion when the person doing the preaching is a true believer. So the messenger succumbs hook line and sinker for his own circular logic. Peterson should declare himself Jesus reincarnated and be done with it. Vissarion in Siberia already has 50,000+ true followers and a model society that makes the Amish look disorganized.

I think it's far more cynical than that. I think he saw an opportunity to ride the wave of the anti-SJW cultural zeitgeist to fame and success, knowing that doing so would make up for all those years he's spent trapped in the boring mire of academia.

Why care about academic citations when you have the book sales to make up for it? I was going to say something similar. People were saying that he used to be more moderate in the past, and it's pretty obvious that he's targeting his rhetoric at the neckbeard demographic since he knows they'll donate to his crowdfunding. We laugh at some of what he says here, but he's laughing all the way to the bank. His fans are the real lolcows.

Scott Alexander was quite a bit kinder to JBP than most of us have been in this thread, but he noticed better than anyone how Peterson, though having quite a bit in common with C.S. Lewis, would've been despised by Lewis for following the orders of an agent of Satan created by Lewis:

Peterson's hatred of SJWs, and their ideology, is extremely sincere. It's one of the top things that attracts his fans to him.

I remember seeing one of his old videos before the masses of paypigs arrived where he talked about all the psychotropics he is on. Funny about the video posted of him crying - to me his voice always sounds like he's going to cry. It sounds as though his voice is always getting weaker and more strained. He also keeps looking ''rougher''. I have wondered about his physical health, something I can't put my finger on there. Could be a chronic illness like M.S;

I assume his voice is struggling due to how much talking he does for his job, and that due to said stupid diet, he can't eat normal things like cheese or yoghurt to sooth his vocal chords.
