I disagree with you there. It might cost him approval, but it won't cost him not one vote. And I know I am not the only one, if this does go forward there will be a lot of voters in places like the rust belt who might decide to just not vote after seeing they have no candidate that represents their interests on the second amendment.
Anyone who has 2A rights that high on their list of important issues will not choose sitting out over voting Trump and protecting as much as their rights as possible. 'I can't have it all so fuck it, I don't even care anymore, just take my guns if you're gonna be that way.' is just not how gunowners think.
While I am disappointed in this development, it's times like this that remind me that after all we didn't elect a true Republican, but a New York Democrat. I still enthusiastically support Trump though. It's a tough situation with these shootings. He's got to give them something to appease the moderates, so might as well give them something that doesn't matter all too much. Because at the end of the day, if I need a gun that bad, I can get around it.
If you've ever watched Pawn Stars you already know any gun made before 1899 you don't need federal paperwork for. If I wanna kill someone I have no problem shooting you with an antique.
It's actually kinda neat in a way. If a civil war pops off, you might have to protect yourself with a Civil War era weapon. It's fun to think about who was on the business end of the barrel 150 years apart.
