Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Some years later they recorded the audio commentary and I believe the show runner said "The voice actress asked for some time off."

Now for legal reasons they had to say that because it sounded shitty to say "we didn't want to pay her."

Seems kind of dumb to bother lying about it. The Simpsons is notorious for the VAs demanding more money when things are going good, and this has gotten bitter enough that seasons have missed multiple episodes over it. Then when the ratings go down, it's Fox playing hardball and demanding they take pay cuts. This has happened time and time again.

They don't need to provide a reason to fire him (Texas is an at will employment state) and would be stupid not to stay quiet about it.

Employment at will isn't relevant. He had a contract. All they have to do is not renew it. They possibly breached the contract on the Mononoke film but he's not suing over that anyway.

I wasn't aware ADV dubbed that opening/ending song, if they did.

Yeah, he plays piano, but lolwut, Evanescence-esque xD? Hoo boy, what a dork.

He did the third OP for One Piece as well. There's probably a few more he did as well; the man can carry a tune, so it's no wonder he was asked to sing songs wherever needs be. Only other song I know he did was his fan-cover of "Brothers", which isn't official as far as I know.

Vic also sang a snippet of Shissou from Ouran Highschool Host Club which sadly isn’t long, but I would have love to see a full version of him singing the song in English.

Ironically, from what I know, D.N Angel has a lot of Yaoi undertones.

Also Liar is also in the dub, ugh!
Yeah I believe you're correct. Or is it technically shojo or bishounen? IDK, I dont fuckin know. But yeah when I was younger I found myself coming across and learning about that show and digging the art and animation, but after delving a bit deeper into the story and seeing some images of the manga, I was turned off. Finally caught some pirated eps on Youtube last year and watched a few until the quality got too bad to wanna continue.

Oh, I heard a rumor offsite that Toonami has been having issues with FUNimation, and hence why their line-up's consisting of more Sentai/Viz dubs than FUNimation. Any truth or source to this claim, and whether-or-not this is Weeb Wars-related or just a coincidence?
As with all stuff regarding business aspects and corporate overlords, if you choose to pay attention, take with a massive amount of salt because there’s no trusted insider/sources giving this info.

Where are you getting that figure from? Can you break it down or explain what you mean?
Sure. Ren has rode Zak/EVS/TUG like the lone ranger on Silver with each comic they released. So far, Zak has made about $6-700,000 over three books and counting, EVS is somewhere north of $800,000 with his various Cyberfrog books and variant Vamperella covers and TUG is at $100,000ish.

Every time Ren and her followers of fuckery start attacking a comicsgater, that comicsgater...in fact every comicsgater with a book on offer, sees a rise in sales. And while the books themselves are good reads/artisticly, some of us buy more than we would otherwise JUST to keep the REEEEEE! flowing.

EDIT, Sorry, the $$$ figures come from the respective IndieGoGo pages for the books.

Agreed. Very thunk-provoking tho. I'm an old school Toonami fan, it will always have a soft spot in my heart, always regretted getting behind and dropping it around 2014.

...is Ren actually a CG double agent?

Don’t feel bad. I never got into Toonami when I was a kid. Nor did I care about its comeback when I was in college, despite being the prime age to be targeted for a Toonami reboot at the time.

Doubt it. She’s full Jonestown for her cause. Pretty much all SJWs are. And believe that they’re in a war that they must win at all costs by any means necessary. It’s just that her opponents resist in their own special way.

All kidding aside, I think she's a spoiled little rich bitch that will do or say whatever gets her attention. She's not intellectually deep enough to have an actual ideology.

Edit: That said, I fully believe she jumped on the KV/Anti-comicsgate side because it 'intersects' with what makes people famous these days. AKA false accusations, drama etc.

I'm fully expecting autistic ratings for my post but fuck it.

Was wondering when DN Angel was gonna come up in all this...tho I wasn't even thinking about the those parallels...thunk-provoking.

Fun fact, Vic sang the OP for that show (or was it the ending?). Some of you might not know about his musical accomplishments but he has produced his own independent albums...IIRC a lot of it is Christian music. I remember an old video where he described one of his songs as Evanescence-esque, so take that FWIW. Apparently he can play piano too.

It was indeed the OP.

He did his own remix that he released on his own CD since he likely couldn't use the original instrumental. It's... A thing.

Other anime songs I remember him doing are: the DBZ Kai American OP called Dragon Soul; one of the DBGT OP's; as well as the original One Piece Funimation OP called We Are.

Dragon Soul, his version which they actually used for the TV airings on Nicktoons and Toonzai/Vortexx. If you want to laugh and/or cringe, listen to the Justin Cook and Sean Schemmel renditions they did for the DVDs. The former is embarrassing and the latter is autotuned to fuck and back.

The GT OP was a newly recorded piece done for the remastered DVDs. I like the lyrics but the instrumental is pretty weak. Luckily there exists a few versions with his vocals overlayed on the original Japanese instrumental.

As for One Piece, he actually did two openings. His first was the third OP when Funimation first took over from 4Kids. The second was when they went back and started redubbing over everything from the very beginning uncut and unedited.

Compare all of this to someone like Sabat who did.... This.

Anyone who is more familiar than me with his musical side, please feel free to chime in. Might make an interesting side topic and be a welcome break from bitching and shitposting about exceptionals. IDK, just a thought. I'm ready for the negative ratings now.
I'm actually not too familiar myself with his original works but I've listened to a few here and there. "Could Be an Angel" I remember he did as a track for a charity fundraiser along with a few other voice actors doing their own songs of some sort that I can't quite remember. I distinctly remember Vic's song sounded the most professional of the lot and definitely the best in terms of singing ability. If you can get past some of the christian rock elements in the lyrics, it's honestly not that bad on its own.

Another that comes to mind is "Nothing I Won't Give", which he made as practically a love letter to Fullmetal Alchemist alongside the already mentioned cover of "Brothers".

Honestly, just look up "Vic Mignogna song" on Youtube or any other variation and you'll probably come across most, if not all his stuff.

As one last part, here's Vic singing part of Star Spangled Banner.

All kidding aside, I think she's a spoiled little rich bitch that will do or say whatever gets her attention. She's not intellectually deep enough to have an actual ideology.

I thought Ren’s ideology consisted of mostly hating any and all straight, white, males that aren’t Cuck Allies or Ass-Remoras of hers before eating some deep fried Twinkies after eating five KFC Cheese Cheeto Sandwiches, and guzzling down Diet Coke.

She’s gotta watch her figure, somehow.

Slaves to their own memes...

Court can't come fast enough to finally set some precedence for these clowns to be fucked if they ever try this shit on someone else in the future.
I'm hoping to see some legal hell laid down for that very reason. But the biggest and most important precedence, IMO, has already been set with suits like this and Zacks, along with Haber and the game company retaining BHBH.

Before, suits were only a threat. Now they're real.

You’re both reading far to much into REN. REN is what used to be known in gaming and MMO circles a “griefer”. Her fun is causing pain to others. It isn’t so much ideology as she simply picks a side so she is allowed to fuck with the other side. She doesn’t give a shit about any of this beyond getting her rocks off harrassing people and having others praise her for it.

Yeah she a griefer, and a lonely one at that with maybe one or two klingons though she may have followers they are no where near her. Remember the infamous, "let's meet across from Anime Matsuri and have drinks. 3 peeps showed. She's a bitter soulless shrew and she gets off ruining things. Her motto, I'm not ruining my game, I'm ruining your game.

Toonami got Fire Force from FUNi last month, so I doubt it.
