Did someone forreal compare strata housing to welfare? These condos cost into the 500k range and on top of that depending on amenities (pools; gyms, hot tubs etc) the monthly strata fees can be up to an additional $500 a month.

Given that welfare is literally $600 a month over here, it’s definitely not low income housing in anyway.!

Yep, the housing market here is fucked. I own a house in the burbs. It has doubled in value over the past 5 years. According to the BC Housing assessment the condo it lives in was purchased for $309,00 in 2017. Though assessed value here means nothing. Pretty much everything condo wise is selling way above assessed value. Appears to be a studio about 600 SQ/FT total. Rental alone for those are going for $800 plus

Sad to say, but yes. The housing bubble in the Greater Vancouver area is unreal, properties go for at least 3x what they should, and do anywhere else in Canada. A friend who 'owned' a million dollar house sold it, paid off the remaining half million owed to the bank and with the rest, bought a house even nicer across the country in Halifax for $300k outright, no mortgage and is living large on the rest.
