Yo I hate to shit on some good Islam hate, but gotta set you straight about the jizya NUTZ, BITCH!
Gonna put this out front:
In the heyday of the plague, the Pope himself issued a proclamation to the effect "Jews don't cause the plague, they haven't been poisoning wells, please stop beating and killing them, for fucks sake." This did very little to slow the violence, especially smaller towns and villages from removing matzo.
I tell this for two reasons - first, it shows that even unambiguously issued religious directives can and will be ignored when people don't want to obey them, and second that in religious violence, religion is usually the excuse and not the reason. (In this case, jews were outsiders who made willful efforts to remain separate from their communities, and were seen as unfair in business dealings.)
With that out of the way:
Muhammad explicitly told his followers not to fuck with Christians and Jews unless they were working against the Muslim state. There are a variety of fucked up reasons for this, but the primary one was in the early days, all Muslims shared in tax revenue - conversions of normies were actively discouraged while Muhammad was alive. Only power-elites and the military, please. So if you wanted the plebeians to not want to convert and turn from tax payers to getting a share of the tax money, you needed to make sure they felt safe.
Christians and Jews were prohibited from participation in war. The jizya is not supposed to be extortion, it is supposed to be their contribution to the war effort, because the Muslim state is supposed to be at constant war until all people and all lands are under Islam. The Christians and Jews were meant to run the economy while the true honest Muslims did the fighting. This was largely how things ran for a while - Pre-mameluk, people in muslim lands paid some of the lowest taxes in the world; primarily because the Muslim state was being funded by plunder from conquest of two of the wealthiest nations, the Persians and the Byzantines.
This script got flipped as new conquest slowly ground to a halt, counter-conquest happened, and shortly after the Ottomans take over tax rates go to some of the highest in the world.
Now, there is a bit of a catch 22 here. People of the Book, that is any religion that acknowledges the truth of Old Testament, are to be protected as long as they are not rebelling or working against Islam. One of the ways you'd show rebellion would be not paying the tax. There is to be a distinction between "Willfully not paying" and "Don't have it, I'm broke", where a Muslim ruler has been instructed in their holy works to be just and kind to the people they rule. But I'm pretty sure we all know how that goes in reality: Bitch better have my money.
tl;dr
If he lived in a muslim country, Beto would be killed for being a faggot, not for failing to pay his Islamic protection money.
I don't think he's a picture of perfect mortality, far from it, but he has done plenty of good in his life. At the very least, it's easier to like someone whose upfront about who they are, rather than those who only pretend but are too incompetent to look sincere.
