I don't think Doug is extreme personally, if anything, I'd probably agree with his views based on what I've been reading. But he came across badly mainly because (IMO) EVS was at least "consistent", he's in it for the money and wants to get paid. He's not looking to push an opinion, he just wants to get paid. He may or may not have extreme views, but he is just trying to be a capitalist. Doug is trying to have his cake and eat it too, he wants to be an opinionated asshole, but he also doesn't want to be held to the consequences of his opinions. I think it's entirely fair to have a "what I do on my own time..." kind of view, but as was said in the stream when you are your own brand, the waters do get murky.
It's like if you're an NFL referee and also a Dallas Cowboys fan. It's possible for your to mentally separate those two things and do your job accurately and fairly, but some people are going to make assumptions of you based on it. If you then penalize of deride the Cowboys just to prove your impartiality, Cowboys fans have every right to be upset with that course of action. As many have stated or implied, what you need to do is shut up and do your job, and if you're good at it the work should speak for itself. (I say that, but I am also painfully aware that the real world is not as fair as it should be, but at the end of the day, that's the core problem, there isn't actually a "right" answer)
