Marketing professionals are under the extremely mistaken presumption that social media addicts are representative of the general public. That's really the lynchpin of everything to do with Current Year SJW bullshit, people are obessed with maintaining their image at all costs. Unfortunately, when placed into a professional situation, a lot of normal people who don't overthink this stuff as much are inclined to assume the marketers know what they're talking about. When in reality, if you examine marketing as field, its really a lot of nonsense and random assumptions.

A lot of edgelords out there slow down as they get older because they become more tired and feeble and insecure with age, as most people tend to. So when some kid in a dress shirt tells them "Ya gotta talk about the politics or the kids will tune out!" they take that advice.

For what it's worth Patton had jokes during the Dubya administration about bitterly hating G-Dub, but also how much he hated "hippies". I don't think he's pretending to be more liberal than he is for the most part.
