Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Probably been brought up , but some of these VAs (ginyu) showing their support for rial/marchi are doing so just to get in good with sabat.
While most of it is hearsay so far the picture painted of Sabat is real damn close to what they accuse Vic of being. A "popular" VA who will use his power in the industry to fuck you over if you cross him. We're no where close but if we get a round 2 of this lawsuit it's bound to be just as interesting if not more.

Really makes you think how many cons had rude staff who purposefully tried to run him off, had Vic decide "Not going back there, screw it" and then tell people "Oh, we totally banned him" when they're the ones blacklisted and it's because they were purposefully dickish to him.
What’s funny is that going all the way back in February when the story first broke out, people who defended Vic admitted “Okay so from what I’ve heard, Vic is a bit of an ass and a diva. Still no reason for him to lose his livelihood.”

Now even the diva part has another side to it. The twists and turns in this story is what keeps it interesting; it really is an anime.

Why else do you think we’ve been talking about in terms of arcs and writers on coke? Hell, the slow times are even dubbed filler here.

I think you're more than paying it back with the Con Stories on Twitter. These are great.

I'm not very familiar with this scene, but my limited knowledge of people and events so far really makes Con Story #3 tickle my brain. Am I perhaps reading into it more than I should be?

I feel like the only thing that KV and lawtwitter are going to focus on here is: " Vic yelled at con staff confirmed!!!11!!!!"

Its true. Both the terms 'slash' and 'mary sue' date back to the 1960s fanfiction community.
Don’t they both come specifically from Star Trek fandom? I know Ensign Mary Sue was from a Trekkers Tale and was a satire of self insert perfectly perfect fanfic characters.

Clearly someone didn’t get Poe’s Law when they decided to plagiarize that character for Star Trek: Discovery’s main character.

Yes, they both come from the Star Trek community. But at the time there was very little in the way of a fanfiction community besides Star Trek, It had mostly died out due to the advent of copyright laws and other stuff.

Self-awareness level = 0%
it perfectly describes kickvic as a whole the keep changing the narrative on what vic has supposedly done, like if your going to lie at least keep
the stories straight.

I'm hopeful for this purely for the trainwreck getting better.

FUNi started this fight and I can see them dying on that hill. Besides, almost everyone there hates Vic and purging all their invalid employees for one man is a never ever, regardless of Toei power. They'd rather be hollowed out and turned into Aniplex South or something equally as laughable.
Perhaps. It's not guaranteed they worked with vic... but Toei would certainly push the issue and if Funi died on that hill, they'd just find someone else that's willing to employ Vic. I only say this because Toei is the reason why Vic even voiced broly so they clearly care about Vic being broly.

Sums up perfectly, doesn't it? These con cunts already had an axe to grind, made a situation bad and shit on purpose by being a cunt, and then act all shocked when someone is pissed off at them for acting like a cunt.

These are the sort of people who used to get seven shades of shit smacked out of them for being cunts, or gunned down in "disputes" (where they acted like cunts) in the old days.

A/V guy needed a smack across the mouth for not being professional, even as a "volunteer".

I don't know what you mean. Toei is totally separate from Funi, and could force them to keep Vic in Toei roles with or without the lawsuit. However, there's no reason at all to believe they will do that. It's not Good Guy Toei vs Bad Guy Funi. Have you seen Toei step in and slap Funi around at all yet? Sabat got confrontational with Toei over his studio tour and they slapped him by forcing the name/image change and yanking their VA. They've done nothing else so far, so Vic would be foolish to rely on 'Japan will come to my rescue'.
I'm not saying they will. Vic loses the lawsuit, Toei will likely cut their loses and have someone else voice Broly. However, It's been pointed out numerous times that they forced sabat to cast Vic as Broly. Also, they aren't exceptional and are going to patiently wait for the result of the lawsuit. We've seen signs they aren't happy.

Yes Toei is separate from Funimation... but Toei controls the license for Dragonball Z and Dragonball Z Super and who dubs the shows. And here's the kicker on how we know Toei has Funi whipped. Sabat, who has enough sway to basically control who gets cast as what in most of the shows Funi dubs, wasn't able to make Toei back down from making Vic the voice of broly. If they can do that, then I have no doubts Toei can get Funi to do anything that isn't illegal.

You've a fair point. If Vic wins the lawsuit but Funi doesn't settle, Toei may well force Funimation to keep Vic on for Broly. However, I don't think Toei has the lionshare of licenses for Funimation, and Broly doesn't have much more to voice, as Super dub is ending soon-ish and there's no word on when or what the next Dragonball series will be. Compared to the dozens of other characters he voices for Funimation (one of the main characters in Bungo Stray Dogs, one of the side characters in Asterisk War, one of the primary antagonists in Twin Star Exorcist, etc) it's not much. It's surely one of his most popular/important roles, but not really his whole career - compared to them settling with a favorable contract.

There's no way that relationship ever works again. How could he ever trust them? It's more like Toei just gets rid of Funimation and hires someone else. Sony could even supply Aniplex to replace them if they still want to deal with Sony.

Funimation could easily cease to exist or at least enter a downward spiral into insignificance. They've certainly lost a substantial number of customers who will never give them a dime again.

lets just ignore the sheer amount of stories with the sheer amount of bullshit in them

This creep really believes the more lies you tell, the more believable they become. Hitler thought that too.

There's an option to unfollow these people or block them, options to mute words on twitter, mark things as irrelevant on both YouTube and Twitter so you don't see them again and a whole slew of other things you could do to avoid this 'vic stuff'.

This is what I don't understand about people like Dorsey (Twitter) and the like. No one is making these people read this shit. They have to actively decide to read it.

Not too hard to guess who that guest was, but also a very good example of how said guest's 'diva' behavior comes in response to bad experiences with the con/staff, not just out of nowhere.
I never bought that diva line. It seemed pretty obvious to me that he was getting pissed because he was on a tight contracted schedule and the con staff and management was screwing him by mal/mis/nonfeasance. Razing hell about unfulfilled contract stipulations is the way the game is played. Nice to have some confirmation.

I feel bad for @EriMin having to dive on the angry guest grenade for her shitty team. But that was the job.
