They were a couple up to and until 2017, Shaun even once openly dismissed Jen for being apolitical on Twitter because after they broke up she stopped tweeting about political topics and started tweeting pictures of cute animals (which is a strong indication in left circles that someone is suffering from activism fatigue and is taking time off to look at cute things to gather themselves back together again). Shaun tweeted something to the effect that "I know I shouldn't look at an ex-girlfriend's timeline but I did it anyway and I saw that she's only posting pictures of kittens. That's how I know my relationship with this person was bad and not meant to be.". He suggested that she was only interested in political topics because that's what he was interested in, but it's also possible that he was force-feeding her his far left politics, that she went along with it for a while but she just got sick of it in the end.

When i asked what he meant by that, he said that basically there are trans women that he's attracted to. Supposedly he talked to some of his friends at college and they seemed to convince him that that makes him something other than straight. I don't know if they told him that he's probably pan or if he came to that conclusion on his own. Either way I basically had to explain to him that there's nothing gay about being attracted to women. Its possible that he wasn't being entirely honest with me (and maybe himself) about who he's attracted to, but i don't really think that's the case. Maybe this isn't all that interesting but i was just so shocked because by any metric he's very socially progressive. I know he's even seen at least a couple of contrapoints videos. I guess it just put into perspective just how uneducated the vast majority of people are on these issues. The fact that even my most socially progressive friend kind of didn't have any idea what these terms meant and basically must not really think of trans women as women was pretty upsetting. I imagine this is a phenomenon most queer people are aware of and something I've never had to encounter as a straight cis dude but idk, i thought I'd share.

Dayton. Who I would hesitate to to classify as being ideologically driven to do what he did in a direct sense. I will argue though that being inside of a nihilistic and pessimistic online social group whose influencers routinely glorify and advocate for violence could lead to violent, anti-social tendencies.
