It shows he's not a sports guy. It's common to dribble and pass to a open team mate only for him to miss the goal from point blank. Or to drive to the hoop and pass to a guy wide open in corner for a three and he bricks it.
Shit it's sports, it's part of the charm and drama that goes into it. Even Curry fucks up threes, Lebron messes up dunks, Ronaldo fucks up a penalty or Messi misses a sure goal.
Phil is just an exceptional individual, he's the one friend everyone has who watched one game that one time and always says he's a huge fan of the sport. He just wants to body the AI and feel good about himself, zero challenge and difficulty.
Like in his latest stream he complained about weather, made a whole deal out of it. He wants realism in weather conditions by location, but not realism in play.

Getting really tired of these Madden streams. We really get to see Phil’s attitude when it comes to competitive games in general and how he probably acted as a child.

We get to see this every time he plays a game that doesn't have exploits or a simple pattern he can memorize, and I do emphasize simple because any idiot can look up YouTube videos of games as recent as Bloodborne and Sekiro and realize that even they have bosses who can be easily baited into exploitable attacks and have hit strings that are repeated over and over. There are flowchart breakdowns of every single boss in Dark Souls III on the fan wiki. He's still expecting the complexity of a game like Mega Man 2 when the industry moved beyond that twenty years ago.

Oh that's hardly a recent thing. His Dark Souls I (or maybe it was Demon's Souls) playthrough had him bitching about how unrealistic it is that a magical fireball would track his character.

But it's always the opposite of what the game is...if the game is realistic he complains that it's realistic but when the game is not realistic he complains that it isn't.

It’s perfectly okay and “realistic” when, in pro football, his running back can break eighty yard touchdown runs and break seven tackles three times a game, but the game is “unfair” and “unrealistic” when it dares to score, or when the opposing team intercepts his pass, or if his player fumbles. I think the only rules DSP knows about football is that you need ten yards to get a first down, and the object of the game is to score touchdowns or field goals. I’m also convinced that half the time, DSP doesn’t even pass the ball after he presses the button to hike the ball, because the game passes it for you if you don’t press any buttons. His ignorance and child-like competitive attitude really shines through in these Madden sessions.

Add this into the "dumb shit i'd never search if I didn't follow Phil" along with "can you get disability for gout." Went on a quick Google search for "Football games without fumbles" and had to go all the way back to the Atari 2600 to find one.

Let's be honest through, who would want the thrill of being down in a game going into the 4th quarter not knowing if that big pass will be caught or not? "Everyone" just wants to coast through using the game as an excuse for people to send you messages (you don't care about) with money (the only thing you care about) attached.

He's been doing this for years. It makes even less sense when he complains about realism in fantasy games. His famous DkS or Demons Souls example still makes me laugh to this day, "The fireball curves in mid-air! That's not what happens in reality guys, stupid fucking devs man".

I think it's simply his brain can't handle contained universes in games. GTA has lots of driving (shocking I know) so he says something "who would drive this much man, so fucking tedious and boring". He tries to go in to every game with a realistic viewpoint, which is absolutely fucking redundant.

That, and he knows he fucks up a lot, so he pulls anything he can out his ass to put the blame on someone else, which inevitably leads up to something hilarious coming out his brain, which IDK if he believes or just word-vomits and hopes for the best.

I think it's simply his brain can't handle contained universes in games. GTA has lots of driving (shocking I know) so he says something "who would drive this much man, so fucking tedious and boring". He tries to go in to every game with a realistic viewpoint, which is absolutely fucking redundant.

The part about the Madden difficulty that I like is that he tried it for, what, all of one play? One fumble and he freaked out and changed it back, saying it was all RNG and it didnt reward his 'hard work'.

But the next time he talked about Madden and adjusting the difficulty, he said things like 'they kept fumbling'. He turned one two-minute session of gameplay into this saga of struggle that exposed the RNG nature of the artificial difficulty. It's amazing that he has the audacity to completely revise something that the people who returned for the next Madden stream had been there for, like he thinks they're completely different people. Everyone was there for the one-pass-and-meltdown, Phil. It's also pretty telling about how he freely warps things to suit his perceptions.

And everyone is right about his reliance on patterns, but I find it interesting his complaints about SFV and other contemporary fighting games is that they're 'pattern play garbage'. Meanwhile, when he plays SF2 he says things like 'if he does dp, I can counter with the low kick every time. It's what you're supposed to do but the game is too fast.' But all these 'supposed to do' things are just patterns he has memorized. He just doesn't want to have to memorize new ones, and so he looks for something to blame, even if it makes no sense.

Pig is applying his delusions and excuses from fighting games in a not really new presentation. In short, his autism and cluster B problems make him angry when the game expects him to actually learn or shit like that. He don't want to learn that sometimes you can't pass to a guy because two or three other guys are covering him; Pig just want to pretend he's a big boy who's good at games.

Basically, it's just another crutch he weebles to when he can't take the fact he's lazy and bad at the game. Up there with "online lag" really. In reality, he's just a salty baby who can't take losing because he's a defensive bitchboy who never grew out of his spoiled childhood and getting laughed at in school for being the antisocial narcissist he is.
