What were some of these scams? Any good reading material for the toilet?

My favourite goon scam was from 2011 or 2012. Some girl was selling these modded PS2 memory cards that would let you play emulators and backups on your PS2 for ten or 15 dollars. People weren't getting their orders and she kept coming up with increasingly unlikely excuses, and the whole thing got dragged out for a hilariously long time. People kept giving her money despite the complaints and she amassed a good 75-100 orders and then disappeared. The goons reasoned that something bad must have happened to her, because they couldn't fathom giving up a years-old account and all the forum rep she had built up for $1200.

Those are so easy to make that I would just wonder why you would have to scam someone with that in the first place, and not just make up some more expensive thing to fake-sell.

Outside of the forum content, A lot of the "official" content is still hosted on the site, though flash is broken for whatever reason. If you found any value in the site as an internet historical artifact, even if the content itself wasn't good, a good chunk of it is right there even if offsite image hosting bit the dust. Even without that, you still have mountains of forum posts covering quite a bit in plain text. If there isn't already an active effort in archiving the site, there should be.

Back when keyboard goop got posted, one of the admins was prescient enough to convert all the images to attachments before permabanning the poster. Most of the other shit that didn't get posted as a frontpage article is lost to the aether, though.

This just reminded me of the Doobies Dogs thing where one goon bragged about donating like 1000 dollars that he would otherwise have used for his kids Christmas gifts. It started as a meme because Doobie ran a kickstarter where he would like paint your logo on his shitty gas-station-turned-hot-dog-stand that ended up crashing and burning a year after the success of the funding, without ever really being solvent at all, all serving Ball Park hot dogs on storebought buns that he was buying retail. Goons at the time were really obsessed with that frog emoji that came from some "barely legal" porn shoot or something with a girl masturbating in bed with a bunch of giant stuffed animals, and they wanted him to start selling "Frog Dogs".

It was still the most successful goon project to date, though.
