For someone in a good mental state, that's a key, fun part of the job: you always have something different to be doing, which keeps things interesting. But for disordered people, I've definitely seen that constant churn of responsibilities, roles, topics, etc. just totally overwhelm some. It's hard to find a rhythm, which is important for some people's stability. Same with the switch between working in total isolation vs. holding the attention of a bunch of 19 year-olds in stadium seating.

For another example, take Luke Lockhart: he got crazier when he kicked off his transition saga, but if you look at the timeline, it's when he finished grad school and had to go to work as a professor that he fully cracked and ended up in the hospital.

Digging through the British Columbia papers, Rhys did actually win a few junior golf tournaments in the 12-14 age group. But these were all local events, not nationals. For badminton he has a bronze medal in mixed team doubles from something called the BC Winter Games, I’m guessing a provincial junior Olympic type deal. Funny to note Rhys lost a tournament, again playing mixed team (coed) doubles, so his days of being bested by females goes way back. Nothing on Rhys playing badminton singles, always mixed doubles. ETA for this latter tourney Rhys was 22.

Lyndsay Thomson completed the triple crown. The Nanaimo resident dominated proceedings at the recent Mariner Open badminton tourney. Thomson won the women's A singles title, beating Mary-Jo Randall of Victoria 11-2, 11-4. She then teamed with Nanaimo's Janice Walker to beat Randall and Jean Albert of Victoria 15-5, 15-5 in women's A doubles. Thomson then completed the triple crown by teaming with Vancouver's Marc Petreman to beat Randall and Rhys McKinnon of Victoria 15-3, 15-3 to win the mixed A doubles title.

The article doesn’t say much about the tourney, if it’s pro/am or whatever, but the other people playing are all a good decade+ older than Rhys, save for the champ Lyndsay Thomson. Randall, Walker, and Petreman are all coaches, the latter two at the college level. The event was the “Mariner Open”, Mariner being the mascot of Vancouver Island University so maybe it was associated with the university.
