What I don’t get is how some people have this idea that you have to trade one demographic for another. Star Wars is big enough for multiple demographics. There’s no need to push out or keep out some to make room for others. There’s enough room in Star Wars for kids, adults, men, women, and minorities.
Often the demographics intermingle and are connected. Before the Disney buyout, the biggest Star Wars whales I knew were all married middle or upper middle class men. They may not have spent as much time on Star Wars as single men living with relatives but they generally made a lot of money. So they spent a lot of money. These guys were often so enthusiastic about Star Wars, they passed this enthusiasm on to their family. This helped to justify their spending money on Star Wars merch. My point is if there’s a little girl that likes Star Wars, her parents and probably grandfather are likely Star Wars fans too. If Disney pisses off the parents or even grandparents then they risk losing all of them. The opposite is true too. If the kids lose interest then the parents will spend less money on merch.
