It's a continuously tightening circle of increasingly broken people. Like, for a while you had stupendously dramatic faggots in D&D, E/N, FYAD and GBS, all drama llama'ing away and purging the Wrongthinkers in their midsts, and then the rest of the subforums were all okay places to chat with knowledgeable people or read something interesting on the toilet. But now the drama faggots have run out of their own to eat, and are starting to bleed out into the other subforums to purge them. Can't post about games in Games any more, every thread is about the ideological failings of some developer or other. Oh shit don't enjoy Shootyman IX, the sound guy once called someone on twitter a faggot 8 years ago! Sport forums are all hand-wringing about athletes being horny morons and The Evils Of CTEs. Gun forum is fulla dudes spending paragraphs explaining how they're One Of The Good Ones, Honestly, Please Do Not Ban Me. The fucking gadget forum routinely derails because some geegaw or other isn't produced ethicallllyyyyy. Dissenting opinions are verboten, everything is either Objective Good or Objective Bad. On the off chance a poster is able to disagree with everyone AND somehow dodge the hammer, every dull faggot on the forum will goad them with faux chill weak irony until they eventually slip up.
Oh and at any time some random Discord or IRC channel might decide to brigade a forum, and you might instantly go from being tolerated to Wrong Side of History. And the increasingly broken and desperate moderation will basically go along with whichever clique they think is most popular, for fear of a QCS shitstorm costing them their meagre Interweb power.
It's kinda fun to watch. But mostly very sad.
