That all seems plausible. By the way, in regards to hedonistic nihilism, there's often been frequent reference to Nyk's drug use in this thread, but is this just assumed or is there any actual evidence that she's actual using hard drugs? (I don't really consider occasional alcohol or cannabis use that big of a deal). I know from a gay friend that the gay scene on Grindr (which was prominently featured in the latest Contrapoints video) in most major US cities is full of guys trying to set up meetups where they do methamphetamine and fuck each other all night (hence the 57% rate of HIV in certain tranny populations), but that'd just be an assumption for Natalie to be partaking in this. Is there actually some video of Nyk rolling on ecstasy or snorting coke? Certainly an addiction to harder drugs would fit the expected narrative of narcissistic self-destruction.
Yep, I definitely noticed that there's pretty much nothing but an airing of grievances being expressed by most Left-leaning youtubers. There's no actual proposal ever being suggested to remedy the various complaints they're ranting about. In the "Men" video, Nyk waxes poetic about the issues men as a social class face, but ultimately offers no possible solutions or alternative suggestions in the videos entire nearly 30 minute run time -- although she does make a joke towards the end about "giving up as a man and transitioning into a woman". You'd think someone who spent extended time in a graduate philosophy program could at least come up with some sort of original ideas? Instead, the video is pretty much just a vanity project for Nyk to strut around in lingerie and negligees to look "sexy" () and get asspats from his delusional sycophantic followers.
Now this is something interesting to ponder. While I also agree with the generally accepted current sentiment that a lot of Freud's ideas were largely disproven, this provides an interesting way of framing the recurrent thoughts of patients with PTSD and those suffering from various self-destructive disorders. Now I'm not an expert on any of this stuff, but I do have a layman's interest in philosophy and psychology and in particular have followed fairly closely the work of the contemporary philosopher Slavoj Zizek, who is a close adherent to Lacan's theories and has made numerous statements re: the idea of "excess jouissance". (mostly though I like Zizek's hot takes on politics and culture, as well as his frequent commentary where he uses Hollywood films to demonstrate various psychological concepts). If I were to make a feeble attempt to connect these ideas to the subject of Nyk, I'd say that there's some sort of link between his suicidal narcissism and the desire for excess jouissance through transgression as achieved via publicly trooning out.
I am a big fan of Zizek, although I have plenty of disagreements with him, but that's veering into off topic territory.
The psychology and social dynamics of troons is an interesting subject. Most TERFs refer to it as a "social contagion", and it's not so much that it's wrong than that this is more of a statement of fact than an explanation. Why are troons suddenly appearing now? Troons claim that they have "always existed", but I have seen no evidence of this(unless we take this to mean that autogynephiles have always existed, but conversely not all autogynephiles are troons). If 1% of the population firmly believed they were born the wrong sex to the point of suicidal and self-destructive distress, then this would have inevitably expressed itself in some way in many cultures throughout history; but it hasn't, unlike Homosexuality, which has a long and chronicled presence in history. I don't think there's an easy answer to this, there's a confluence of factors, some social, some psychological, some political. Not to say that they are all equal, but suffice to say there's a lot of shit going on and it would take a rather lengthy analysis and discussion to break it all down and I don't think it's relevant to Nick.
@Nykysnottrans has pretty thoroughly chronicled Nick's various freudian slips over the years, such as his statement that he wishes to die before reaching the age of 40, his history of substance abuse, his belief that vaginas are "poison", his intense jealousy of young, attractive women, and so on. It seems clear that his trooning out is tied to his narcissism related to aging and beauty rather than autogynephilia, having strangely come to the belief that trooning out will improve his appearance. Although there is a clear fetishistic aspect to his behavior and fashion, this seems to be rooted in being gay rather than coming from autogynephilia, but it does seem ambiguous at times and he doesn't clearly fit into either of Blanchard's typologies.
It has been funny seeing how vacuous and full of shit he is. I've seen Nick's videos mentioned in passing and seen youtube thumbnails over the past year or two but never looked into it at all until seeing this thread. The "expert" on politics is just a joke. It's amazing how ignorant he is and how superficial his understanding of virtually everything is. For someone who was a grad student in a philosophy program you'd think he'd know more about the subject of his own academic expertise, but there's no real suggestion in his videos that he knows what he's talking about beyond a brief wikipedia synopsis. You'd also think that our "expert" on deradicalizing the alt-right and 'Nazis' would actually know something of the history of the politics he's supposedly an expert on. Again, no indication he's ever read a single book on the subject.
This isn't really surprising considering people far more famous than Nick have proven to be no different. I'm thinking of people like Professor Richard Wolff, perhaps the most famous Marxist today. Few people are aware that he's admitted that he has never read Das Kapital. This is something like the Pope admitting to having never read the Bible. It seems that as far as fame and fortune go today, the precondition for being an expert on something is knowing nothing about it, and few people embody this better than Nick. Nick's success appears to be little more than marketing, something I think that's obvious from watching a minute or two of any of his videos. At this point he is as Nykysnottrans said, too big to fail. The pure inertia of his fame is all that's needed to carry him forward, at least for the foreseeable future.
Honestly, Nick isn't really funny, at least not yet. He's more pathetic than anything else, looking at his nerve damaged face grimmace in some grotesque approximation of a smile. I am keeping my eye on things in the hopes that he'll at least give us a payoff of going out with a bang rather than a whimper. I wonder if he'll end up like his old idol, Anita Sarkeesian, completely forgotten and ignored by a new generation of people who clawed their own way to fame on his own name brand.
