Now I know a lot of you are saying Toei is totally going to axe funi for this and while that is highly likely, think of this. You have a perfectly good reason to go elsewhere... but why do that when you can basically turn funi into your own private dubbing company through terms and conditions for the license to your works?
here's a scenario. Toei hears about this. Executives throw a fit and call funi, threatening them. Funi tries to placate and fails. Then after calming down an exec calls, saying they are renegotiating and if funi wants to keep its license, they will agree to every single condition they set and the first bit of backtalk they walk.
from there toei lays out its conditions for them keeping the licenses they have: toei basically controls the company and if funi gets any funny ideas they walk immediately and are allowed to. they control everything: from staffing to what studios they associate with and what licenses they accept. Funi has two choices. accept Toei's deal and lose their agency or decline and Toei walks, taking most of Funi's moneymaking anime. at least one piece and db, both of which account for most of their profit.
which leaves funi in shambles either way. the first leads to complete demoralization of current staff (which may not be around long anyway) and loss of good pr because TFS loses their shield and will eat a dmca for it. the other leaves them in shambles financially and having to claw for money... but they have no chance. Toei absolutely will warn studios to avoid them which means either more licenses pulled or no new ones.... basically ending Funi's chances at having a future.
While they could do that, there is always the risk that Sabat and his cronies could worm his way back in once the initial scandal subsides and Toei stops paying attention.
Case in point, IDW Comics: the head editor of the company Chris Ryall put his company on the map by getting the rights to Transformers and My Little Pony. But he got stuck with GI Joe when Hasbro consolidated all of their properties into a master license where you had to pay for ALL of them, to get the ones that make money.
Ryall was a super SJW and not only did he hire a stark raving lunatic lefty named Aubrey Sitterson to write GI Joe, but also broke the spirit of longtime conservative writer Larry Hama, turning him into a 100% broken SJW anti-life drone. Hama had been writing the token monthly GI Joe book IDW was contractually obligated to publish or else lose everything; Ryall basically told the conservative Hama he had to go SJW and go SJW big time (turning Snake Eyes into a man who's brain was trapped in a woman's, Trump bashing galore, and an issue where a black GI Joe guy is attacked by white guys while on leave) because he was 100% set on giving Sitterson 100% control over the franchise so he could rape it in the name identity politics and shitting on the military and conservatives while having Sitterson's comic press cronies blood libel GI Joe fandom when they complained about how Sitterson was raping GI Joe.
Luckily GI Joe fandom had "ins" with Hasbro, who laid down the law as far as telling Ryall to shut Aubry up after Aubry made comments mocking survivors of the 911 terror attacks; who buy that point saw Sitterson's book hit super fucking low sales that forced him to do a relaunch under a new name to salvage the book Sitterson was writing. Ryall (who by this point was also forcing SJW garbage in pretty much EVERY Hasbro book save for MLP), was livid that Hasbro was shutting him and his boy down. Sitterson's relaunch was pretty much dead at this point and Ryall only got the three finished issues published by agreeing to ban Sitterson from interviews/don't promote his book and find a replacement writer for GI Joe as far as Sitterson being barred from the property. But then he let secretly Sitterson give an intervie Bleeding Cool where he blood libeled GI Joe fans and his critics as Nazis and Ryall was scheming like crazy to come up with a way to get Sitterson back on a third GI Joe book relaunch under an assumed name.
IDW by that point was drowning in debt and took over SEVERAL loans, which they only got because of them telling the bank lenders how they had the Hasbro comic license which would make them all sorts of money to pay off their debts. And Hasbro had a clause in their contract that said if IDW did something to damage their franchises licensed to them (like Sitterson had done GI Joe), Hasbro could void the entire god-damn license on the spot; meaning no GI Joe, no Transformers, no MLP, etc for IDW. Which was a huge deal, especially since the master license was also set to renew at the end of 2018 and the SJW antics of the company were already pissing Hasbro off.
So IDW ratted Ryall's plans to keep Sitterson on the GI Joe book/that he defied the compromise that was made by IDW to give them a chance to possibly keep the license come renewal time and let Sitterson give interviews attacking GI Joe fandom. IDW was told Ryall had to be fired or else they would have their licensed voided for damage done to the GI Joe brand. Which would have created a domino falling chain to kill IDW dead within months.
Ryall was fired and Aubry was informed he was permanently blackballed from IDW (which he continues to bitch about to this day). John Barber, one of the few non-crazy SJW writers, took over Ryall's job and did the above: bent the knee to ALL of Hasbro's demands: killed the ten year continuity of the now irrevocably pozzed Transformers continuity, rebooted the Transformers line under the "Alignment" principal of one unified G1 canon for the G1 version of Transformers across all media (something IDW had resisted for years), and firing all SJW writers from the Hasbro properties and replacing them with scrubs.
Everything was going good, Barber stepped down and was replaced once he saved everyone's asses and got the Hasbro contract renewed, but once Hasbro turned their back, Ryall connived to get his old job back. His replacement was #MeTooed out of his job (allegedly manipulated by Ryall) and his cronies rehired him. And one of his first orders upon taking over the company again, was greenlighting another SJW "fuck the military/fuck conservatives/fuck GI Joe fans" Joe book with a new SJW writer who is basically writing "What if Cobra stealth took over the United States and GI Joe, now all minorities and OC characters, was the resistance/antifa fighting against Cobra Commander doing a Trump impression?? "
