Game development is a collaborative process; for every thousand programmers, writers, composers, etc. you might get one sperglord like Toby Fox or ConcernedApe who really can do it all, and even they need help with distribution and publishing. Everyone else needs to work together, especially if they want to produce more than one title in their lifetime. But how are you going to manage that when every time you collaborate it's like building a bridge with the KGB? You can't so much as sneeze without being worried that Brendon the lead programmer or Krista the community manager are going to decide that's one microaggression too many and conspire to ruin you? Especially if they've got crowdfunding already set up to fund whatever half-baked, idea-cum-vaporware product they want to make without you, and with "formerly of (your soon-to-be demolished, successful studio here)" stamped on their Twitter profiles?

This shit is fucked. Maybe there's a light at the end of the tunnel but I don't see it. I'll take the sterile yearly CoD/Battlefield release over this.
