Victor Mignogna v. Funimation Productions, LLC, et al. (2019) - Vic's lawsuit against Funimation, VAs, and others, for over a million dollars.

I've seen it. I have no doubt that he will be able to participate in some projects.
But in my understanding, he was cut just when his career was supposed to go up the hill. And now it's not even clear how he'll get back to the same level as he was before.

The one major positive to it is that voice actors in anime make the bulk of their income from convention appearances, signings, photo ops, and the like. His fan base has demonstrated, even through the lawsuit, that they are willing to support him. Based on his affidavit, I would expect that his appearances have been quite profitable for the conventions as well. So, even if he can't find as much work, or as high profile of work, he'll likely still have a place on the convention circuit for years to come.

The obvious issue with that is that he seems to legitimately enjoy voice acting for anime. I suppose time will tell if he still gets roles after all is said and done.

Why do lawyers have twitter accounts at all? Why even fucking engage in that shit? I know a firm that had a Facebook account and all it brought them was misery, no clients just pure misery, I can't even imagine what Twitter is doing to these people.
A prevalent theory is that someone is paying them to tweet against Vic's case. Judging by the sheer amount Doucette tweets he obviously isn't doing any other payed work.

Their subscriber count is dropping like a stone. With Crunchyroll being a terrible fucking alternative, we might be looking at the destruction of the American dubbing scene unless Sony completely guts and renames Funimation.

They aren't the only ones. Isn't karma that BOTH Funimation and Rooster Teeth are in decline? Its almost as if firing Vic caused a massive chain reaction to occur in both companies. The cherry on top would be if iO9 and Anime News Network gets Gawker'd, too.

That would be insanely stupid seeing as Douchette routinely calls Vic a child sex predator, which even the defendants aren't doing any more. If they're paying him to say that, the defense lawyers themselves would end up defendants and could no longer represent their clients, as they'd have to hire their own lawyers and their former clients would have to hire new ones.

Why not? It is plausible deniability for everyone involved. I have long suspected that the Tuttle group has their fingers inside Funimation THROUGH Ron Toye, and it is just a simple matter of following the money. Maybe Ron's Partner isn't as clean as he sees himself being?

PR would be my only guess. The newspaper age is getting dirt shoveled on it's grave, and now most "journalists" just get their topics off twitter these days. The problem is, most go about it wrong with being boomers and boomer boomers. The spednot and good ol Tommy Greg is the best example.

400 tweets a day? It just becomes noise as he just drowns himself out with quantity or over quality takes. Imagine this thread, and all 335 pages, was just 1 page that you had to continuously scroll through (7K messages) just to see new takes--that is the spednot.

I can see the perks of lawyers using twitter, but most go about it like idiots. Most of the time I get the "Hello, fellow kids" vibe with how they do it.

Edited for word usage.

Compare the numbers in Vic's affidavit with the numbers Nick was citing per hour (it was something like $70/hr, but only getting 3-5 hrs/week). Vic's main source of income right now is still viable, but he needs his reputation cleared to get back into all the cons, and to shut up the idiots like Lynn Hunt who will try TI every time anyway.

However... he can't coast off of past work forever. I don't know the half life someone has before they become old news on the convention circuit, but he's going to need to keep getting jobs in projects that generate fandoms, whether anime or Star Trek or whatever.

Something to keep in mind, his most lucrative offers aren't off the table, they are are just nudged to the side. A lot of companies are, rightfully, waiting to see the results of the lawsuit. Keep in mind, to us here it is clear that the #KickVic side are a bunch of screaming idiots, but we have followed the court case and seen the proof (and lack there of) in detail. Everyone not doing that is simply waiting for a final judgement.

Oh, for sure. I mostly meant that he'll probably have a few years before his earning potential will be substantially diminished, so he does have time to build his rep back up. Guests can keep going for quite a long time after their last "big thing".

Though, in all honesty, I expect that he could easily find work doing video game voice work for European or Japanese studios or even some indies. And I wouldn't rule out Sentai or Bang Zoom using him for some work relatively soon after the lawsuit's resolution if it ends in his favor.

The newest orders given to LOLTwitter: Percy needs to be sued for malpractice. As the old sages say: Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

But how is any of this malpractice? What is the logic and reason behind it? Is this just a new word for LawTwitter to use? Did they look in the legal dictionary and randomly flip to a page and decide everyone is going to use that for the next 72 hours?

Thank god I don't go on twitter. It's the worst platform ever invented. I'll take AOL chat rooms over that shit show any day.

It's the exact opposite. The evidence's mere existence is what's important. The plaintiff has nothing to prove other than that there is a case, not the case itself. Just Vic's own affidavit proves most of the elements of his case, and Huber's fills in much of what was left.

Less is more. All filing voluminous mountains of garbage shows is you're so desperate to prove anything you fling a mountain of shit in the hopes that there's a kernel of corn somewhere in there.

Thanks for the explanation. Beard's filing clears up a lot about how this all works, and what angle he's trying to use to defeat the TCPA motion. It's a hell of a read, and shows what the TCPA is intended to do (read: allow actual defamation cases through while shooting down random companies trying to sue purveyors of bad internet reviews).

To be fair. RT's downfall was entirely unrelated to vic. They were dealing with the declining quality of their biggest show, RWBY, and their big budget attempt to diversify their roster of shows flopped with gen lock. Vic's situation was but a blip in their road map to failure. I doubt it had any impact.

Yo guys, can someone explain to me some of the stuff law twitter likes to brag about? They say there are missing footnotes with blank information and it looks like it's been put together last minute along with copy and pasted stuff.
Isn't that normal? As far as I'm aware.

Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth. Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.

I'm sure a lot of RWBY fans and especially RT First members canceled their subscriptions due to RT doing Vic dirty, though.
That's money that walked out of RT's door and into the GFM.

Yikes. I hope that's from an intermediate draft before they finalized the exhibit names.

Search for __ and you get a giant mess in the footnotes.

Note: to avoid doing things like this, use placeholder text for anything that isn't final, like XXX and then just search for that before submitting a final document. Make sure none of those are there any more.

C'mon guys.

And let's not forget Jack Bishop, Jamie Marchi's fiance, also works at Tuttle.

From what Nick had said, these will get touched up very soon. Apparently there's a bunch of issues with filing electronically, and one of them is the creation of blank spaces.

Or something to that effect. It was early morning, and the explanation was muddied in between bouts of trying to caffeinate and trying to get back to my comfy pillow.
