Epic Games General Thread - Its time to talk about what the AAA gaming industry does not understand about the PC console.

That was actually a direct spite-fuck to Valve, since Valve was working with them on Linux games. It'll probably be quietly regulated to the dustbin.

Sweeney looks like a corpse anyway. I don't take corpses seriously.

Sounds like he hates everything that involves more work or less profit for himself.

Which is funny, considering Epic has a lot of China money coming in from Tencent.

Yeah, no doubt. Tim Sweeny is a giant cocksucker, who just a few years ago, was praising Valve and painting fears of Microsoft locking everything in.

He then started to suck Microsoft's dick later. But he went radio silent when Microsoft went apeshit on Epic because they took a studio and IP they recently bought and signed an exclusivity deal. This is a huge reason why Microsoft is snuggling up to Steam and not even mentioning Epic. I mean, you couldn't have been more short-sighted. You knew Microsoft owned these IPs and the studio. Take 2 doesn't give a shit, It means free money for an IP they no longer own and a studio that isn't there's at all. But to do that to Microsoft and think there wouldn't be consequence? I mean, you don't make Microsoft look like a bitch without some repercussions.

That's the other thing about Sweeny. He's not doing his exclusives strategically, at all. You'd think to avoid fully funded Kickstarted games. Games and studios that have recently been bought by one of the biggest companies on Earth. Games that have a small, but fanatical following who are likely not to buy anything else on your platform. Doing it just to spite a competitor.

Like, everything has been half-assed with this store. No longer releasing updates to it is a trip. They're clearly not spending money on it.

I still hate how Epic Games bought Easy Anti-Cheat, essentially breaking a lot of games on Linux (both Epic-created and non Epic-created).

Fuck Sweeney and his hostility towards Linux.
Not only that they made it actually worse. There's constant problems with the damn thing from performance to false positives locking people out of the game until they figure out what's pissing it off..

Oh, and their support for it is fucking garbage, but no surprise there.

It's an online store without a shopping cart. You can't half-ass it more than that. I only bother with it so I can play around with the Unreal Engine but it fails to open/crashes/fucks up so often I'm considering just messing around with Unity instead.

Unity has a bad rap because it isn't as feature rich out of the box, and it's so easy to use asset flips are a thing. The terrain generation is absolutely ancient and crap, and you need a good (usually commercial) culling for it to work with more graphics intensive games, but the documentation and the codebase of Unreal Engine is so awful, Unity beats it at every last turn.

It still doesn't have a cart?!
Wasn't that on the "roadmap" like six months ago?
I'm no coding wizard or anything but you would think Epic could use their billions of chink bucks to add a fucking shopping cart in half a god damn year.

Yeah, they kinda said "fuck it!", oh yeah didn't mention this but apparently yesterday I believe they announced how you CAN pre-load stuff on Epic...Ya know, since BL3 is like week away from releasing.

You'd have to standardize the content of the packages to such a degree that they could be handled as objects which would allow a good and clean backend, which are then verifiable to prevent usage cases like purchasing negative amounts natively. I mean, it's a huge amount of work, at least 30 or 40 hours for a single programmer who has experience in it, double that for someone who has never done it before.

Yet you can make a Etsy website preloaded with a shopping cart.

I think you missed the sarcastic tone. It's literally a week including all the testing that it'd take to implement if they have 1 competent programmer on the team, assuming that a complete monkey didn't make the backend. Even if the backend is an absolute mess it wouldn't take a single programmer more than a couple of weeks.

Knowing their security troubles they're probably worried that every purchase through the cart randomly e-mails any user that the purchase was made. With or without credit card information.

Do we have any idea about the exclusivity period for Control? It’s a great game but it runs like absolute dogshit on ps4 . I’m talking Skyrim on ps3 levels of bad.

from what we can guestimate, one year.

All father Gaben is tired of Epic shills using Steam to promote their games then releasing it on Epic because Tencent is busy perfecting spyware that putting forums on their awful store

practically this destroy the tactic of Sweeney of using Steam tools to find games to throw money to steal the exclusive if you put it on Steam you have to release on it or you are getting the Ninja lawyers

I'm glad Steam's finally doing something about this. I was getting really annoyed having to constantly check and manually unlist upcoming games from my wishlist because of Epic buying them out.

Is actually a brilliant tactical move, he fuck Sweeney to stop poaching games in Steam, he stop devs using all the goodies of the Steam platform to bail to epics when they see that sweet chinese dosh, he also stop them to announce games on Steam to release it later on Epic, now every single kickstarter or dev promoting his game in steam CANT do the same shit that Shenmue 3 did, or you release it on Steam OR ELSE

Good luck trying to get games now Tommy boy, no one want to see that logo of EGS in their games
