They lost that chance in 2016. They will more than likely have to wait until at least 2024, or restructure the entire party/start a new one/expel their more unhinged members and try again much later.

Yeah, in case anyone decided to preserve their sanity and not sit through that seven hour clusterfuck on Climate Scary, the entire thing was just a gigantic GOP campaign ad. I have to wonder when exactly the Democrats are going to offer people something, because as it stands it feels like all they're doing is screaming about what they want to take away. I think at one point one of them wanted to ban banning.

That doesn't really change what I said though. They currently have no one in the party of any ideology, neither progressive nor moderate, that is a potential President. They have 0. Whether or not they restructure or split in two is immaterial, 0/2 is still 0.

It's funny because even the people that would seem to be palatable have had holes blown through both their feet with the party's current platform. You can't exactly say "yeah by the way I realized opening the border is kind of retarded and not really beneficial to the american worker at all, and I totally won't work towards that if you vote for me!" and expect people to believe you.

The Democratic Party didn't get so bankrupt of competence overnight. It took decades. They won't fix it overnight either.

Interestingly, I think the NeverTrumpers are probably their best bet. But the Dems are so petty they'll never get over their scorn for them. Because they sure as hell won't be welcome back in the Republican Party. But at least they'd have some semblance of competence, even if they are morally bankrupt. So in some ways it would be like the Democratic Party of old.
