Reading through some of the threads on r/Contrapoints is
For some reason the rest of my post got cut off, and then I can’t seem to edit it either.. strange.
Anyways I was trying to say that browsing that sub-reddit is basically like reading the thoughts of a bunch of cultists: they all perceive the world in leftist ‘woke’ terms, and anything even slightly right of center or slightly socially conservative gets criticized as if it were completely absurd and/or evil. For example, there’s a thread talking about Jordan Peterson, who’s about as milquetoast and non-confrontational as they come... and yet Contrapoints redditors equate him with the alt-right and fascism.
These people have lost the plot. They’re so deluded by living the majority of their lives in online echo chambers that they think in terms of black and white, with no room for nuance.
Obviously, the same thing happens in far-right communities. But at least places like /pol/ seem to have some self-awareness of their paranoia and hive-mindedness.
This is an extremely loose analogy, but I’d argue that Kiwi farms seems to fulfill a similar role in online forum discourse as confrontational comedians do in comedy circuits. We are kinda like the Dave Chappelle of Internet communities, in the sense that we aren’t afraid to tell it like it is, mainstream public perception be damned. Sometimes there needs to be a group that isn’t afraid to point out when the emperor has no clothes.
