Anyone find it curious this would be sent to mediation while Chupp is considering an Anti-SLAPP motion to dismiss on the remaining causes?

If he was going to throw out the remaining causes, why wouldn't he just issue the order?

Thinking this has to do with bench rulings.

I've dealt with mediators before. It's not a hug session, they talk to you, look at evidence, and tell you how the law applies and the Judge is likely to rule. You come out of there with a realistic view of your prospects.

Also, Funimation might not play along because any settlements might involve throwing VAs under the bus and/or giving dirt on House Sabat.

I'm almost sure Funimation could get out of this for little more than a public retraction and turning over the records of the fake investigation. They they could go after Rial and her cuck and that simpering little fairy will spend the rest of his life writing mortgages to pay Vic.

Vics Lawsuit: Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.
I hope.
I wont lie, the recent rulings by Chupp weakened my positive outlook on this case.
Reminded me that while the concept of Justice (capital J) is amazing, the justice we receive is all too often flawed or undermined by those who are supposed to uphold the ideals.
Or something like that.

Waiting for some more obvious wins for the nice people, and more schadenfreude from the idiots.

My first thought on hearing about this mediation was it meant that defamation was still on the table, because why would he order mediation on an issue he's going to dismiss? What you're saying is the other thought I had; that it's a threat to both attorneys to see who acts in the least "good faith" manner and hold that against them in his ruling. I have no clue of the legality of this strategy from the judge's angle, but it's interesting to infer his motivations this way.

Chupp is either avoiding doing his job and avoiding the angry mobs or he's reached nirvana and laid a trap for someone to fall into. Or both.

I really think he may throw it out and pretend that the mediation influenced that. But I don't wanna be 100% blackpilled.

I thought there would be something more definitive than "lul let's mediate"

Yep. As it was said, VA's are a dime a dozen, so replacing a few will mean nothing and they can easily get a new HR person(or whoever did the investigation).

Plus Vic did say in his depo that he did get job offers not long after he was fired, he just didn’t take them up on it at the time because that period of time was especially rough for him. Despite Funi and RT cutting him loose, it’s clear other places either didn’t care about the controversy or don’t believe the allegations. Vic’s a popular VA so they were probably jumping for joy they might be able to snatch him up for a project since he won’t be held back by obligations to his former employers.

Add to that Vic also writes and performs music of his own which you can find on iTunes. And he also mentioned in his depo he also writes music for commercial jingles on the radio.

His fans will support him no matter what and will absolutely pay through the nose to any convention that supports him.

Win or lose all is not lost for Vic, he’ll still have his fans and job opportunities.

And regardless of a win or loss, RT and Funimation (the latter of the two most especially) absolutely damaged their reputations. They lost several subscribers and fans and both will forever be wrapped up in these controversies. Many of the KV folks have tarnished their reputations (if any ever had any good ones to begin with). Monica, Jamie, and Kara were already practically nobodies, this just sealed their fates. The VA’s who allied with them have ruined any goodwill as well. Sean Schemmel already was losing respect after his stint with Peter Kelamis last year, but now he’s put the nail in his own coffin after all his sperging against Vic and his fans. Chris Sabat is slowly but surely losing the trust and respect he once had with even casual anime fans.

Win or lose, Vic will be able to make the most of this I’m sure. It will never be the same but he’ll be able to overcome it and move on with his life I bet. Funimation and RT and all the exceptional individuals that attached themselves to this controversy however can only pray Vic loses the lawsuit. They already lost so much support and respect and it keeps dwindling by the day.

The internet may move on to the next meme to spam or controversy to obsess over...but the internet never forgets.

This will stick with these people for the rest of their sad miserable little lives.

Their little scheme to cancel Vic blew up in their faces and only outed them as scum and liars while their target only gained more supporters in the process.

Hey you KV speds who I know are absolutely lurking these threads while you froth at the mouth behind your keyboards...I only have one thing to say to you:
I hope it was worth it.
Apparently Vic also sang at least several of the english One Piece openings, which I personally really love.

Also, Rooster Teeth is the company that should really be worrying. I think Funimation will be fine for the time being, at least until if more stuff on Sabat ever comes out, but Rooster Teeth is pretty much imploding right now with a shit ton of layoffs. They also recently had 4 important people leave their presumably high-paying jobs to... pretty much fuck around and do nothing with no other jobs lined up, so it's likely they got the axe too but are under some form of NDA. RWBY is slowly dying, their new game AND their new IP were both massive failures, and the recent price hike has put even their hardcore supporters on edge. I'd be surprised if they last another year without being absorbed into Warner Media.

What the actual fuck is this nonsense? Mediation? Its a bit fucking late for that Chupp. What is the fucking point of a court house and a judge for solving problems if all you are going to do is say "Nah, your guys work this out on your own". Seriously if it could be worked out in that way we would not be here you moron. No one likes being in a lawsuit. The only reason lawsuits exist is because two or more parties cant work shit out on their own. Chupp is literally a cuck to the responsibilities of his position, sitting off in the corner watching someone else do his job for him.

I might sound a bit mad at the internet right now but I assure you I have an ear to ear grin while typing this because I cant even fathom how incredibly entertaining this absolute miscarrage of justice is going to be. This means that all of these horrible, despicable people are going to have to sit down around a big table with Vic and sing. Kumbaya with a baby sitter. Moronica and marchi are going to agree to delete their tweets if Vic just does the right thing and registers as a Class 3 sex offender, and lemwah is going to pedo grin at Ty while casey cries in the corner.

His rendition of We Are is really awesome, I love it. I wish he would've done the second version, as well.

They either get together their shit with Volume 7, or BTFO and get someone capable take the helm.

I don't trust that their new Head of Animation was the same lead as in High Guardian Spice, but I digress.

Thinking it through a bit, it makes me think that he's giving the defendants one last chance to settle before they get past the TCPA. There's no reason he'd try and do that for the plaintiff, because you don't just get to drop the case mid TCPA. You still pay reasonable attorney fees for the defendants. It also makes me think that, as I've believed for a while now, Chupp is sick and tired of this case. He wants nothing to do with it, and I don't exactly fault him for that. I hate dealing with incompetent shitheads at work too.

I am disagreeing because i think vic would not take something that would keep his reputation damaged, but here is a consolation prize if that truly does happen. Monica and ron are still on the hook for a lot of money to their lawyers. Also vic will still get invites and job offers. Also the battered womens shelter will get a good chunk in donations.

edit: also the sacred ointment jokes and other funileaks aint going away and we have the olympics 2020 to look forward to and all the memes to come from it.
My only thing about FuniLeaks is that anime studios and manga publishers really just focus on the main Japanese market and really don’t give two fucks about what happens in some foreign country.

I think his motivations are being tired of all this bullshit and wanting these people out of his life forever.

Think of it this way: do you like to do your job when it involves dealing with exceedingly exceptional individuals? I'd be annoyed too. Mediation also isn't exactly "figure this out between yourselves" either, it's more like "alright listen up you dumb fuckers, this is where you stand in terms of the law, now get along and make a compromise or I'm telling daddy Chupp."

He's the one who doesn't know how to do his job at this point.

Court-ordered mediation is fairly common actually. The timing is absolutely fucked, though. I think the judge realized he fucked up and this is his Hail Mary pass.

I think hiring Vic back would be the wisest move for Rooster Teeth. Take the L, say the investigation was faulty and start healing the rift in their community and bring people back to subscriptions. They traded Vic and his built in fanbase for Monica who did maybe 20 minutes of audio for them.

Alas, I get the feeling that it is "too little, too late." AT&T bought Warner Media expecting a certain amount of dedicated subscribers and RT has probably bled most of theirs away. The trust and respect has withered away and been destroyed. They could rebuild if they had time. Which they don't.

This is truly the best case scenario and the stuff of nightmares. How did Weeb Wars end up being so hilarious without completely devolving into diet Homers vs dangerhairs tier everyone sucks and needs to off themselves?
