Steven Universe - Now a Griefing Thread

I hope next season sees Steven fighting an alien empire that's just a thinly veiled allegory for Republicans, with a leader who's just a thinly veiled allegory for Donald Trump. And have them be the only major villains who aren't redeemed.

GRAB 'ER BY THE GEMSTONE
Nah, the ultra progressive crowd got super pissed at Steven Universe for making that Gem Harvest episode, where they showed it’s important to understand the other side and empathize and see things from their side.

Also the uncle was voiced by Carl from ATHF.

You guys and your optimism is admirable, but besides keeping it calm & collected, I gotta be real here. Especially as someone who was once on-board, before rightfully getting pissed off and turning against it, sadly.

Just remember that turning a show into your identity is retarded. And if you fuck that up, just remember that you shouldn't take your identity too seriously.

I skipped that Episode, I got five minutes in and kind of assumed that it would be "ORANGE MAN BAD.exe" did it actually have the WHUTE STRAIGHT MAN not be Hitler Incarnate for being angry that there are people squatting in his farm?

Yep, he was a very human character. Gave him good reasons for being upset while at the same time showing he was being unreasonable too. It’s actually a really good episode overall, you should go back and watch it. Tumblr was mad BECAUSE they didn’t make him Hitler Incarnate.

I've seen enough to know that Steven's mom lied to a lot of her friends, in ways that hurt them a lot... but why does that somehow make her less redeemable than her *literally* genocidal sisters? If it's because she died, then that's a stupid answer... because she died opposing said genocidal sisters (even if it was for selfish reasons.) I'm not saying she's blameless, just that the show I've seen clearly wants us to forgive the other diamonds, but still blame Steven's mom for everything under the sun, it makes no sense to me
Maybe a lot of people working on the show have mommy issues :panda:

Just remember that turning a show into your identity is exceptional. And if you fuck that up, just remember that you shouldn't take your identity too seriously.

Okay... I can definitely not argue against that, ever. However, know this - by "on board with it", it was my (rather autistic) way of saying "happy to sit down to and watch it", NOT something truly exceptional as making it my life ID or some other SJWBS like that. Honestly, anyone who does do that with any and all media deserves a thread here. Another thing I stand by as FACT.

Overall, I wish the movie was actually an entire season. I liked a lot of the ideas, but felt that not enough time was spent developing them. It's my criticism with most elements of the show lately.

Some of the plot details were pretty wonk. Greg really had to not-fuck his dying son. No matter how hard Sugar denies the nature of fusing, it's impossible for me not to see it that way.
The diamonds seemed to forget the entirety of their last major story arc: That they didn't do right by Pink and didn't really know how to love her in a way that was beneficial to her growth. Then, they want to adopt Spinel as a not-Pink replacement because they want to love her like they love Pink.
Steven's friends weren't exactly supportive. You'd think Lapis would swoop in to at least spot weak Steven while he tries to free-climb the injector. She is doing fuck all in that scene.

I was into the musical numbers., though The cast was picked to be well-suited for them and it shows. I've always enjoyed the songs in the show, and Spinel's 30s influenced style was incorporated very well. The Takarazuka Revue reference at the end came as an amusing surprise too.

These are fantastic points. I wish my autistic ass could express these properly when I talk about it.

I haven't seen every episode, do they ever explain why Greg isn't allowed to live with his son, but has to live in a van?

He lived with him up until the time that he built the house of Steven to live in while he trained with the Gems. The Gems kinda looked down on him for the most part and they really didn’t super get along, so all of them living together would have been too stressful on everyone. He lived with the Gems while training his Gem powers and everything.

Greg lives in a van because he’s super poor and only source of income is the car wash

I hate to go full MRA, but Greg should have been allowed to live in the house with his son.. That really kind of sucks.

I think it was more Greg didn’t think of himself as a good enough father, so he let Steven live with the Gems once he was old enough to start learning about his powers while still being them for him as best he could. Didn’t want him living in a van his whole life, I’m assuming. He was mainly crashing at Vildalia’s place while Steven was a baby.

Greg is the best character though.

Yah I actually like Greg a lot from what I've seen. I don't know who Vildalia is though...

Onion’s mom. Had a one night stand with Greg’s old manager and had Sour Cream. Manager was a shit and wanted nothing to do with them. She and Amythest are old friends.

Greg also is a multi-millionaire now, and the house has also been completely rebuilt. Now that hatchets have been buried and all that, he may also live in the house. I suppose we'll see come season 6. Though, he didn't stop the van life after he was suddenly rich. He's a go with the flow kind of guy and doesn't seem to mind his situation enough to want to change it. Any changes, especially big ones he does make are always for Steven's sake. Building the house, getting a job at and eventually owning the car wash to support him,

Even from what little I've seen, I actually believe you that Greg is rich... I'm assuming he paid for the house that Steven and the Gems live in, because who else would have? (Even though he isn't allowed to live there for some reason.) Also, he doesn't seem particularly hindered by the fact that he had to buy the yacht that he had previously rented after Lapis sunk it fighting Jasper... (I've seen random episodes, but nowhere near every episode.) But why is he rich? If it's because of his music, why is he still living in a van?

With that said, even though I believed him to be rich.. if he really is so rich... why does he seem like a cheapskate hermit most of the time?

I remember he got a bunch of money from some jingle he wrote or something, so yeah, he's a millionaire. He might just stay in the van because he doesn't mind it.

In the Mr. Greg episode, they found out Greg's old manager owed him 10 million bucks in royalties from one of the songs he sold. He's also the reason the Gems have a house, which he specifically got for Steven's sake. As for the van, I think Greg just likes living in the van since he was doing it for years and enjoys the simple life.

Because he basically is one

There's a whole episode in which his old manager comes to town to give him a check- he sold one of his songs as a jingle. That's when he becomes rich. He doesn't let it change him, however. He likes his life and continues as if nothing has changed. He just doesn't have to worry about bills and rent anymore.
