In that case, could it not simply be because Chupp intends to use the mediation results to alter his ruling before the official filing? That could mean a whole lotta things - between merely wanting to cover all his bases after realizing he fucked up, to seriously reconsidering his decisions, to concretely deciding that Marchi is back in full.

I’m not gonna pretend that I actually understand the rules surrounding mediation, so feel free to correct any mistaken assumptions I might have made.

I mean that is wholly plausible. He knows both of them hate each other, can't find out why. Dug into everything, still flummoxed and realizing he's been bamboozled/his conduct is certainly going to be appealed meaning he will have to deal with this either way and he can only delay it at the cost of reputation.
So what does he do? shove the work to a mediator so the mediator can make heads or tails and give it to him in a way that makes sense. What he does with that information is unknown but if I were a bett'in man, which give my recent luck with reading things, I'd be bett'in that Chupp will move forward if for no reason other than rejecting everything prolongs his suffering.

Do we have actual confirmation about what the case is about? I wouldn't be surprised if the meeting was to try and get everyone to stop being so public about the case. I imagine having to deal with all the ancillary bullshit is driving Chupp crazy.

One other thing, this isn't going to go away. Even if this case just turns to dust the damage has already been done, and I think douchette even got that through his grotesque skull because he is no longer throwing out the "well documented pedophile" line that he usually touts. The Texas VA community threw out accusations they couldn't prove and enforce standards they couldn't meet. All that's been proven is what was already known; the anime community is filled with elitist, shallow cretins who desperately cling to any semblance of purpose and act on mob popularity rather than any concept of justice.
