Hold up, the scanners on ST are still out? They were messed up when I went?

Yeah, when you get to the first ex-goose droid (the one that used to be "fixing" the R5 droid) and he's scanning luggage, there was a big black screen behind him that I figure was supposed to be showing things inside luggage that matched what was on the screen in front of him.

Shit, it was both the luggage screen and his little control panel that were out.

You never went on Splash Mountain until now, Optimus? Lol wimp.

Never thought there's "bragging rights" about being on all the major rides, but I got on all the Mountain rides my first trip to Disneyland, although I always had to take off my glasses because I was paranoid about losing them (almost lost them on Thunder Mountain, fell out of my pocket when we were going up a hill, and I also almost lost them on Space Mountain, they fell off my face and luckily I picked them back up). Favorite part of the park is California Adventures, though, like damn that's one fine park. Best experience next to the Indiana Jones ride moment was Screamin' California, though. Was my first "fast, big" roller coaster (I've always been so small), it was during the evening time and... you could barely see the top of my head in the snapshot LOL. Made my little brother cry, it was great. Will forever miss you, Tower of Terror.

Great to hear the pin trading is still a thing. The last time my family and I went, I believe it was the first year they incorporated it, and we literally spent a fortune on those damn pins rofl, it was addicting. We have them framed with our honorary Toon Town citizen buttons 'cause we're fucking weirdos, but I look at my Oswald the Lucky Rabbit pin with pride.

EDIT: On a whim I looked up Screamin' California videos and this made my day (time-stamped).

@Kari Kamiya I don’t trade my pins but I do collect em. I have a couple Disney/Star Wars crossover pins from before they purchased the name: Stitch as the Emperor and a parody of the Haunted Mansion poster with the Force ghosts instead of the hitchhiking ghosts. Bought a starter set last year at a convention for Disneyland Paris’ Tower of Terror. When I went last month I picked up a limited edition HM anniversary pin.

I just learned that California Screamin' (as it's actually titled, silly me) got a revamp or some shit to be the Incredicoaster. What the fuck?

In my defense, the last time I was at any Disney Park that had Splash Mountain was when I was like, 11 or something, and I will admit I was a scared little shit of any of the big rides fifteen years ago.

Then my dad basically browbeat me onto Millenium Force during my first visit to Cedar Point sometime within those 15 years and that's when my thrill ride balls finally dropped. I would have ridden Splash much sooner except I don't live anywhere even remotely near either Disneyland nor Disney World.

Pin trading was incorperated in 1999 to coincide with the millenium celebrations, taking inspiration from the pin trading around instances of the Olympics. It simply grew from there. Though I have to wonder if you got them around the early 2000s, how exactly you got Oswald pins because Disney didn't get the rights back to him until 2006.

Yup. The whole boardwalk area got redone into Pixar Pier - California Screamin' is now the Incredicoaster, which translates to essentially a new pre-show, enclosed scream tunnels with static figures and effects, some new paint for the trains, and...really that's it. It's mechanically the same ride.

The ride also stopped four times. I know the ride stopping is a running joke but what in hell happened to require it stopping four times?!
Guess how many people needed assistance getting on or off after you got on. Go on, guess.

lol Splash Mountain is pussy shit, it's the least rough of the mountain rides

Also Pirates sucks now, I want Jack Sparrow gone.

Fair enough, but I was ten when I first went and I went on the rides just fine. Sooo wimp :P.

But yeah, sucks when you live someplace too far to go to Disneyland/World and/or are just too poor to go. I know that feeling.

Wow, really? 2002 was the first year I went and I don't recall there being pins then, even a few years later for a school graduation trip. We last went...... shit, I think it was 2012? Cars Land was new then, it was 2012 or 2013. But that was when we first learned of the pins and we were like "FUCK YEAH, PINS".

Laaaame. Why are the revamps of their rides all so lame when they're still essentially the same ride?

@Kari Kamiya the only ride that’s somewhat “new” to the area is the Inside Out themed one, but it’s literally just one of the Bug’s Land rides that’s been repurposed and rethemed. Kinda glad they got rid of that area as even little kids seemed eh about it.

Also I’m still fucking salty about the Tower’s reskin.

I will agree, Splash is 'tame' - but you get SOAKED all the same and walking around with squishy shoes isn't fun. It does make me wonder why Disney hasn't invested in some of those full body dryers, there were quite a few when I went to Universal's Islands of Adventure in the comic strip island which is almost entirely water rides.

hey screens are hard to replace do you realize how far they'd have to drive to get to a best buy?

I think I recall them making smaller deals to at least sell the shorts and some merch before they flat-out bought Oswald prior to Epic Mickey?

Yeah getting water dumped on you is fun if it's taking a shower but I've never understood "dump a bunch of water on you = theme park fun" outside of water parks.

They used to sell ponchos? Didn’t check if they still do.

a) ponchos don't do shit about all the water that gets in the car
b) ponchos fucking suck

I don't even mind when it poured back when I used to go to wdw. But that's fresh rainwater, not that grody shit in a boat ride.

I honestly thought the point was to get soaked when it's hot so you cool down. But I live close enough Disneyland and remember the thrill and went in the summer when I was a kid.

That's the theory but if you're in a humid area you just end up damp for hours with water that includes all the filth washed off every guest on the ride before you and the machinery that runs the ride is also soaking in that shit.

Good thing I'm not. I'll be sure to avoid it if I ever go to Disney World.

It was notoriously undermainted for a while, like entire AAs missing of main characters and the dialog still there.

They litterally could just use drone delivery - it's Tomorrowland, aren't drones supposed to be the future anyway?

As for Oswald, I don't know anything beyond the fact Disney traded Al Michaels the sportscaster for the rights to Oswald and all of his shorts which Disney himself had worked on - the shorts that came AFTER Walt left Universal were not included in the deal.

They used to sell ponchos? Didn’t check if they still do.

lol nope. You'd think Disney would capitalize on that, but there weren't any ponchos for sale around Splash in the four or so stalls around its rediculously long-ass queue to get into the queue.

Yeah, when I stepped into that log, there was water still in what looked like little trenches carved into the floor of the boat specifically for water drainage. Guess where your feet went. And god help you if you have personal belongings, because you're allowed bringing them on the ride, but there's NO storage, so I had to cradle this bag of stuff (including electronic hardware like smartphones, though fortunately I had brought along emergency ziplocs just in case so those were at least protected) in my lap the whole time.

It was notoriously undermainted for a while, like entire AAs missing of main characters and the dialog still there.

All the AAs seemed to be in fine working order on Splash...except the very last one. There was some owl dude that clearly was meant to do something, with a spotlight on him and everything, but he just remained motionless with his head rotated 90 degrees to the right and away from the ride vehicle.

As for the maintenance, that was a widespread issue back in the 90s and early 2000s thanks to Eisner era policy. It still pisses me off that it's the reason why the Big Thunder locomotives look so stupid with the second driver axle wheels missing (all the promotional art and merch still has them as proper 0-4-2s, but ever since the fatal accident which involved the second axle catching on bad track and causing the locomotive to lift up and basically crush the guy in the front row seat behind it, all the locomotives on the ride are now 0-2-2s with a dumb looking gap to ensure that axle never happens again). It's better now, though there's still signs they could be a bit better still - especially with the fact I think the reason Matterhorn is such a long wait is because they intentionally are keeping only the Fantasyland side running - the Tomorrow land side's tracks run alongside the section where the old plasterwork fell and the scrim covering the damage is still there, visible from the 'Partners' statue at the end of Main Street. This was a few months ago so why they haven't gotten that back up and running is beyond me.

it uses trackless ride technology as well (side note: so does Winnie the Pooh...and guess what ride is currently closed for "refurbishment")
I thought only the Japanese version of the Pooh ride had trackless technology? The only current trackless ride I know of in California is whatever the Luigi ride in Cars Land is now.

Glad you had a good day, that much more resembles the Disneyland I remember than the hot mess they're making of adding new IPs to the park. I agree that despite hating Disney as a company the parks are still enjoyable. As much as they want to get rid of the old shit people love and replace it with new bland and marketable garbage that's a lot harder to do with the parks. (Unless the park is Epcot, RIP) Indiana Jones is my favorite ride there by far. People love the mountains, but Indy is my choice of 'big' ride there. You're absolutely right about Matterhorn, btw. I feel like the main reason people ride it is because of its history and status as a Disneyland Only Mountain, because everyone knows it'll kill your back. It used to be better before they changed the cars.
