Calling themselves his friend while letting things that supposedly happen get swept under the rug is equally disgusting especially if they knew and only spoke of it behind his back. If he understood that his behavior was detrimental and not just a series of miscommunication and poor boundaries as you inferred, things would change. Nobody in a position to influence him that felt that way was willing to say anything.

You're kidding yourself if you think that was a mature and healthy way to handle that situation.

While awful still not as bad as the time I saw one of my relatives in their swimsuit. That is an image that will never be burned out of my head, no matter how much drinking I try. Though some of the defendants, in this case, come close. I just hope to god we never find anything of them without clothing on, Might have to blech my eyes out.
But either way, those are some stupid looking clothing.
