We give these fandoms more flak than Normandy on June 6th, but really most of the people in them aren't all bad. It's the ones who draw the characters or their ocs in diapers or getting eaten through each others aholes that get all the attention and drama and the ones who paint the picture of the fandom as a whole and Chris has done that to the sonic fandom the poke crowd the bronies, and pretty much anyone who took an interest in geek culture. The only ones he didn't ruin in the four decades he's lived is the star trek and wars fanbase the whoovians.

To be honest, when I call a fanbase cancer, Im most of the times am not refering to everyone involved, only the spergs on the front. Its fine to like Sonic and MLP by itself, what gets you into the "cancer" territory is when you act like those are more than what they are, fictional stuff. Im big into Star Wars but I will be the first one to admit that we can be quite the cancerous bunch with OT purists and Prequel hating (im not gonna mention Sequel Hating since I do think thats justified for the most part), that doesnt mean I think the whole thing is cancer...just dont be a fucking asshole on the internet (or else I will feel rightfully justified to call you a cancerous tard)
