There are a lot of religions that believe you can talk to higher powers, spirits, saints, and the like. And some religions even believe that you can receive responses back on some level.

But there is a reason that only fringe and culty religions in the western world have people receiving direct, explicit, communication from the supernatural. Because, historically, people who claimed that they could talk to spirits or demons or God were eventually proven either crazy or liars or both.

Staph, if you want anyone to 'take you seriously' when you start transplaining or crowing about 'facts', you need to stop then telling everyone that the ghost of Heath Ledger rides around in a car with you. It is one or the other. You cannot have both.

I have a broken understanding about this since my knowledge of it was just stumbling across it when researching something else. I don't know about Catholics who practice folk magic, but I know a little about a sect of Christians that practice Hoodoo, which she probably hates. Hoodoo is similar to Vodou (Voodoo is the Americanized spelling) in that it's a type of folk magic that was started by black people. Haitians started Vodou, Hoodoo was started by African slaves. How the fuck a sect of Christians started using it, I have no fucking clue.
In the Tumblr magick circles, it's pretty clear they believe no one should practice Vodou unless they're black. Because DAS RACIST. I haven't heard anything about Hoodoo though.

Oh fuck I do know about this. I have a friend who's family practices this. Again, broken second hand knowledge, but what I do know is that it's a lot like what you think of witchcraft "today", for lack of better explanation. There's altars, usually set up to specific saints. Holy water is used to to purify spaces. A core belief is "the evil eye" which is kind of like the "uwu negative energiesz" in modern witchcraft. Spell work is common, usually to deal with the evil eye. Rosaries and the crucifix is used as a talisman of some sort.

That's about all I know. It's pretty tame in the world of folk magic.
