I've only been on Splash Mountain and the Matterhorn. The one time we went in 2004 was just days after the guy died on Big Thunder Railroad so that was closed while they worked on what went wrong and prevent it from happening again. And Space Mountain was closed for extensive refurbishment for the big 50th year anniversary in 2005. The only two times we went to Disney World were when I was 2 and then 4 so I was too young for the big rides, and Splash Mountain was under construction at the time. So I've always wanted to ride Big Thunder Railroad and especially Space Mountain and was very disappointment that I was unable to.but I got on all the Mountain rides my first trip to Disneyland
I was there in 2004 and pins were out in full force. Just about every gift shop had them, especially on Main Street. Nobody was trading at the time, though. People would just buy one or two because they're the cheapest souvenir available.2002 was the first year I went and I don't recall there being pins then, even a few years later for a school graduation trip.
What happened, the earthquakes in July? I was under the impression that since the quake epicenter was so far away that it didn't affect anything in the park.I think the reason Matterhorn is such a long wait is because they intentionally are keeping only the Fantasyland side running - the Tomorrow land side's tracks run alongside the section where the old plasterwork fell and the scrim covering the damage is still there, visible from the 'Partners' statue at the end of Main Street. This was a few months ago so why they haven't gotten that back up and running is beyond me.
