The thing about 4chan is that, unfortunately, it's compromised. The days of being able to bring awareness to things, let alone conduct activism on it, are long since past, and the place has gotten an infestation of Social Justice garbage (and correspondingly, insufferable /pol/tards convinced they're fighting the good fight) on virtually every board. Normally they fall into the background radiation in 4chan's ocean of piss, and Anonymity means they can't simply scrub the pervasive presence of shitlordom entirely - but if the proletariat gets too uppity, the mods will descend like a pack of jackals and shut down everything until the wrongthink stops. ZMOT's post gives me a good excuse to get into why 4chan got into this situation in the first place, so needs must.

raids and doxxing always got punished hard even years prior to GG, not sure if the latter even has legal ramifications. when GG kicked off after 5guys&fries it had all the markings of an new chanology, and even if not it was obvious there would be a lot of shitflinging and other crap. tbh I probably wouldn't have done anything different in that scenario, it simply would've been (and was) way too big a headache even without the fappening, no matter the personal stance. but then moot could never be arsed to put in IDs or containment stickys either, so moderation was always kinda shit.

ZMOT makes good observations here, but there's a part of the puzzle that's missing - namely that m00t making the current infestation happen was completely intentional, and it began with m00t capitulating over GG. I bring your attention now to the mod leaks from m00t's inner circle:

Now, the log itself is easy to doubt, at first glance, so one might assume there's no way to confirm its contents directly, since we don't have anyone who was actually in the logs spilling the tea, and unlike the CON leaks, we don't have them responding to events in real time alongside the timestamps to basically guarantee it's legit.

There are parts we absolutely can confirm, though. They do mention events that were happening in the exact same time-frame, including Zoe's Cracked article (which did, indeed, drop 2 days before this is dated), and Anita's appearance at XOXOFest that year, which m00t absolutely did attend several times over the years, and most notably, the very year in question:

Those together requires an autistic attention to detail a bit above the level of your average hoax, but doesn't discount that, so let's add additional corraborating evidence to see if we can get to the bottom of this:

First, Zoe's supporters were and still are infamous for going knives-out on behalf of Zoe. Any platform that was daring to give a place for GG discussion was getting people trying to shut that shit down, even on places that by all accounts, no one should ever have cared about Gamergate on. On Channel Awesome, for example, Lindsay Ellis and her coterie of useless tagalongs basically mandated that everyone on Channel Awesome take a stand against GG and support Zoe, despite the overpowering bulk of the site not knowing who in the fuck she was, driving a massive ideological rift in the website in the process. This one is especially noticable because Dan Olson and Kyle Oancitizen both declared that anyone who doubted blowey Zoe was an innocent victim who did nothing wrong was guilty of the worst kind of misogyny, and they intended to out anyone who wouldn't toe the line. Sound familiar?

On The Escapist, Bob Chipman and Jim Sterling demanded GamerGate be verboten, and when the site's owners wouldn't cooperate, Jim ragequit the site declaring that they were "giving a platform to madmen." Chippy continued to sperg about GG until The Escapist inevitably fired his ass. Even after both these fat useless Social Justice apologists left, their buddies on the forums did their damnedest to lock down GG discussion on The Escapist, basically preventing any narrative but their own from getting out. About a third of the Crash Override logs center around them trying to spam reports against 8chan to its hosts in order to strip it of its ability to operate. They were absolutely relentless in these early days, and that was a big part of why Gamergate Streisand Effected as hard as it did. We know why they did this from the CON Leaks: They believed that if they deplatformed GG hard enough (by deplatforming it and destroying its leadership), they could break the back of the movement. Remember that, because it's going to be relevant later.

Furthermore, we also know that m00t had been cozying up to various groups on Twitter to help support his new venture that wasn't 4chan. Bribing is something several of the big names in GG opposition were known to have done; Gawker is known to have bribed their way into moderatorship on reddit in order to purge content critical of it, for example. Several of those big names were ones m00t was palling around with at the time, including Cracked, which m00t mentions specifically in the log. Moreover, several of them are confirmed to have donated money to his new project. It's not a stretch to imagine that he was paid to ban GG when CON was already paying Ryulong and several other speds to do the exact same thing on other websites.

Next, we know that in the logs above, m00t devised a plan to end GamerGate by doxing and threatening the people who support it and then telling them he did it by getting their IP's off of 4chan. Why does this suggest they're legit? Because that is exactly what fucking happened. 4chan had a group of Zoe's supporters that aggressively went after various individuals that they saw as "leaders" in GG, like Slade Villena, Milo Yiannopolous, and so on. In other words, they were doing exactly what CON's expressed marching orders were: trying to intimidate GG into submission what and aggressively attacking anyone who could be perceived as a leader within GG did: The exact same fucking thing that Zoe's supporters did in the CON and Trello log leaks. This is further backed by that one dude from the DOD that 4chan's idiots allegedly doxed, back before Ethan Ralph completely lost his mind, but not believing that one I'll forgive because it's Ethan fucking Ralph.

Now, obviously, we can't say with absolute certainty that m00t was in on the take on this one. We can certainly fucking imply it, however, given what we know now. The aftermath, of course, of all this is history: 4chan's aggressive attempt to lock down GG discussion was the opening of the proverbial floodgates - there was zero question that after m00t took the stance he did that the mods at the site got infinitely worse, and did so with a very specific ideological bend. Even if all of the above speculation was ultimately bullshit (which I sincerely doubt, given how much we have right now), 4chan as a whole is a hollowed shell of the place it once was. The very nature of 4chan means that the site will never be free of people calling one another all sorts of hilariously filthy insults, but the era of the site being a haven of free speech is over, and it was the usual suspects who acted as the heralds of the apocalypse.

I've read it before and i don't buy any of it, to be frank. Even then, regardless whether the log was real or not, GG split up 4chin hard and accelerated its downfall.
The log has many buzzwords, and having spoken to moot and having seen him speak, this isn't in character in the least, and fits so many tickboxes of what "people want to see" it reeks of being fabricated. I bet anyone who lurked on 4chin irc would feel the very same, as he commonly talked with people there.

Also the site has had a mod ticketing/notification system since its start, there'd be no reason to send an email of a meeting, really, and mootlet referring to people as "nerds" in a derogatory context would be funny considering he used to call himself that on the regular.

I finally downloaded the Epic Launcher, because I wanted to play that Untitled Goose Game. I loathe having two different launchers on my desktop, but I'm also boomer enough to remember the old days when you'd have a million launchers on your desktop for every individual game, so.... eh?

Goose game is a really dumb, really fun game. Worth the $15 to fuck around and make kids hide in phone booths while you honk at them. Or stealing a gardner's "no geese" sign, because fuck him and fuck his dumb sign.

I have been buying games digitally since the only delivery option was literally snail mail, and i do not remember this ever being the case. The most launchers i've ever had installed simultaneously (and even then only one of them autostarting) was with GOG, Desura and Steam. GOG Launcher isn't needed for anything and Desura was really shitty indie platform that died when Steam said "greenlight", so instead of curating everything internally, they let anyone and everyone put out content on it for a nominal fee.

I'm not going to tell you that spending 15bux on something idiotic isn't worth it, but what i've seen of the Goose game is that it's literally an asset flip with a week to a month of work put into it. There's a number of these games around that'll likely never be completed or polished as of recent, like that bird skateboarding game. Joke games are the product of gamejams, keep them there.

Its not actually started from Epic, it actually started from Microsoft. during the very early years of 360, MS moneyhatted exclusives and exclusive content for games that are multiplatform or sometimes timed exclusives, the practice remained the same for Xbone. Sony did the same with I believe one of the Assasins Creed PS3 games. I believe the PS3 Batman Arkham games got some PS content exclusive as well.

So, if you have someone to blame, its Microsoft. They started the paid networking trend, timed exclusives, content exclusives, microtransactions.

No indie exclusive is worth the trouble of trusting Epic with any personal info, or using burner info just for them if you ask me. This happened to me as well. Got the free batman games.. got my receipt a week later. I panicked for a minute thinking somehow someone had got into my account and bought shit before I remembered I never put my credit card info in their systems because lol.
