Well well well. Something interesting happened when I was uploading something to my archive channel. For those of you not aware I uploaded a copy of Evan Stone's Election video but in full Japanese text including Japanese subtitles provided by our very own @ManateeHunter.
Well I did my part:

Even added Jap closed captions.

Seems 3 days ago Funimation issued a manual copyright take down:

And even better look who it was that filed it personally:

Funnily enough they only targeted my Jap version of his video:

Really makes you go

Oh well guess I'm gonna have to take it down. :^)

Good to know funimation acknowledged the video as their own. Im sure toei would be very interested in knowing funimation used their IP to push politics. That wouldnt fall outside the scope of what they are allowed to do with the IP would it? :story:

How dare you steal Funimation's improper usage of Toei's ip and force Evan Stone himself to claim ownership of it!

These people aren't very bright.

I searched for other instances of "evan@aquapony.com" because I don't imagine it's an email address he'd use or plaster everywhere.

There aren't any other instances. If there is, I didn't find them. I did also find this.

Curious that one Funimation's lawyers thinks that the TCPA sucks.

...and that he commented such around the time that Funimation was entered into a lawsuit where their predetermined strategy in that scenario would be to file a TCPA.

Even more strange, this is coming from reportedly the dregs of lawyerdom, an IP lawyer.

Japan is generally even more "keep politics out of my shows" than Americans. Yu-Gi-Oh's mangaka got huge backlash from the community when he did a small fanart blurb about voting in the Japanese election he had to publicly apologize and grovel for using his characters in such a way.

I assume that's why they went after the JP one, it's more likely to gain traction in Japan through searches. Maybe you could try uploading it to Nico Nico Douga, it's what most of Japan uses instead of YouTube. It'd gain better traction there.

Should try and post that somewhere like NicoNico. That place is practically the japanese YouTube. Don't think Funimation can claim and/or flag your video on that site either.

I'm sure this has nothing to do with him representing a client which uses frivolous copyright claims to try to silence criticism of itself.

Vic x Nick

Clouds roll across a darkening beach. Separated by meters of sand, they stare at each other. "Vic-san!" "Screech-kun!" Screech stares at his feet. "... daisuki." He looks up, determind. "Vic-san! Daisuki!" As the rain begins to fall, they run to each others' arms.
