I honestly think most of the hate, even here, are from smelly dick men who know he's right. That's great you don't need Daddy lessons, but unfortunately in our society that loves empowering single mothers, we've left a gaping hole that needed to be filled. Peterson and his advice are far from the worst thing some young men need to listen to. And if getting addicted to a highly addictive drug your doctor gave you while your wife is dying of cancer makes you lolcow, then I really don't know what is. Does he chimp out? Feed trolls? Wash your fucking penises for Christ sake.

I don't think so, but maybe it would be better if that were the case. Peterson and his family don't really seem fit for the limelight, especially with all of their ongoing issues.
His daughter's weird meat cult thing definitely never should have started in the first place. I know that much.

All I can think of is Peterson in the rehab clinic trying to sleep, shivering, covered in sweat, muttering to himself while he dreams that he's being chased through the dark corridors of his own psyche by an anthropomorphic lobster pelting him with clawfuls of pills and screeching "Clean your own room, bucko!"

Just some random thoughts on benzodiazepine addiction.
It's been a while since I read my Goodman & Gilman (the bible of pharmacology), but from a practical perspective, BZDs are very insidious. If you can control your intake with most drugs, take opiates for instance, you get increasing tolerance of course and an abstinence syndrome when you desist, but otherwise you can fairly contently maintain on the same dose for years. With BZDs ... not so much, at least not with the long acting ones, if you don't have some capacity for discomfort. And since that discomfort comes in the form of the very symptoms that you've started taking benzos to avoid, it doesn't typically go well. To that extent, I feel there's less moral culpability about benzo addiction than most addictions.
I'm guessing (?) his psych gave him clonazepam to (unsuccessfully) wean him off xanax or something. Its half life is very long, like over a day; this is good if you're already addicted (I've heard it called the methadone of benzos) but the resulting lack of respite from its effects otherwise makes you dependent very quickly.
I remember from the Joe Rogan podcast that Peterson said he couldn't sleep for like nine days after eating vegetables or something. Every benzo/opiate addict I've ever met does this constant self scanning/interior focused thing ("How long since my last dose? How sick am I? Am I starting to sweat, get hot and cold flashes, has my nose started running yet? ... ) that normal people really don't do. In retrospect, kinda makes sense Jordan would be susceptible to addiction.

This is worse than I remembered. Obviously, cider doesn't do this ... but what is this a perfect description of (sleeplessness, feelings of doom, etc)? Benzo withdrawal, of course. I wonder if he might've been dependent at the time without knowing it.

I don't see how checking himself into rehab before any serious incidents occur is very hypocritical of him, especially since from what I'm reading, the stuff he took is dangerous to get off of. I also don't see how its lolcow worthy for someone who's family went through a cancer scare to try and deal with it through prescribed medication.
Going down the rabbit hole a bit, I checked his speaking tour past events and I noticed he canceled around May.
After a quick search, found his cancellation announcement on youtube.
All this was back in May, and he hasn't really been in the public eye since. Checking back on this thread in May, there was no mention of this cancellation, so I didn't even know about these cancellations or the fact that his wife had medical issues until this particular announcement of him checking himself into rehab. So as soon as there were complications, he canceled his tour and focused on his family. That's a lot of money he just gave up in order to clean his room and get his house in order. So no, not hypocrite. Emotional wreck? I can agree with that.

Honestly if a random guy said he was depressed about his wife having cancer I would give him a break but since its the guy who says "put yourself together" its a bit funny its also a bit funny because it looks like he took drugs to maintain appearances rather than just taking himself out of the public eye to deal with his wife.

What in the holy fuck are you talking about? He literally canceled a multi million dollar speaking tour to "deal with his wife." I would say that fits your criteria of "taking himself out of the public eye." Also, taking drugs to deal with depression is not really that funny, unless you think depressed people should stay depressed, or do you think Peterson believes people shouldn't take drugs to deal with depression, and if he does, do you have any references to this other than your own head canon? If you want to criticize or laugh at Peterson, at least have some amount of facts to back up your claims of lolcow behavior instead of these milquetoast ass critiques. You're making people who actually want to laugh at Peterson cringe.

If I were married and I couldn't handle going to crowds who love me rather than taking benzos to help me cope I wouldn't go to the crowds who love me. If the guy is depressed take something other than benzos anyway benzos are really great in emergency situations but its not a good idea to take them long term. If an autist on the internet know that benzos are bad long term then maybe the clinical psychologist would be able to say maybe I shouldn't take these for a long amount of time. Also the reason he is in rehab is because he went off them too fast another thing he should know.
Peterson is supposed to be this wise man who understands everything and is so tough. He couldn't withstand his wife getting cancer without cracking though and if a normal everyday guy needs anti-depressants to deal with this type of thing fine then but Peterson talks tough but he cracked because of this. Many people do not fall apart upon learning their loved ones have cancer and I wouldn't knock a guy for falling apart normally but Peterson is supposed to be better. You can not find this funny and that's ok but I find this hilarious especially his fans who no matter what he does always go out to bat for him. Buy my signed rug. My 4 or 5 posts in this entire thread aren't spamming the thread so you can still look at what you find funny. This will be my last post in the thread until something new comes up if it even does because a fight over whether or not him going to rehab is funny will actually shit up the thread.
Tone it down a little bit it doesn't seem genuine when you use that many references. I am not great at trolling either but that attempt wasn't the best.

You're right, I just feel genuinely bad for that drug addicted soon to be widower, and now he's trying to remove himself from attention and money to better himself. Just dont understand this pedestal he's been placed on as this wise man who is without flaws. He's never said that about himself nor should have anyone said that about him. I'll stop spazing out and just keep reading now, maybe I don't get it.
