When Starwars was released in '77 the USA was more then 80% white but today it's 60%, so unless whitey learns to fuck, ya'll going to be scrambling for the 'token white guy' role within a couple of generations.
That's the reality and Disney are going to pivot to cater to those growing markets. They could give a shit about representation up until the point that not offering it in a product means leaving money on the table in an increasingly multi-ethnic society.

To take the words out of a great man's mouth and awkwardly paraphrase them, Theodore Roosevelt disliked the phrases "Irish American" and "Italian American" (which existed around ~1910 when they immigrated en masse). He thought that it would make an identity that isn't just "American." The same would rationally be extended to "African American" or "Asian American" which is why I refrain from using those terms.

The funny thing is, at the end of the day, if that's true they won't NEED to force diversity if that was so true. Part of me wants to believe you're right and that Disney really does want hate watching this piece of shit to pull in a solid chunk of revenue. But at the same time everything we've seen out of Lucasfilm and Disney the past few years and with disasters like Galaxy's Edge suggests anyone with this clever scheme is being kept far away from any real decision making power. Instead I think Disney is cutting their loss for this by limiting its advertising budget. Remember how for months before and after TFA and TLJ nu-Wars characters were everywhere at the grocery store advertising everything in addition to all the other ads for the movies? This movie isn't getting a fraction of that, it's maybe on Solo's level of advertising.

At this point I'm beginning to doubt the ability of IX to crack a billion (very optimistic on my part I'll admit). Seemingly the entirety of this movie's draw is "it's the last Star Wars movie to end things, you HAVE to see it since you saw all the others!" They've done fuck all else to draw crowds, that's for sure.

I think it's advertising cut backs, not knowing what the final cut is and a mix of scared and hubris. They recently tried to have some shills push the crazy frog alien and gained a few thousand views, while people laughing at and dunking on the shills were likely in the millions of views. More and more people are becoming aware of company shills and manufactured hype and it feels like advertising that belongs half a decade ago, although maybe it still works for insta-thots and wine moms. If they hadn't shit all over old fans while chasing the shills they could have used organic hype and memes to help advertise, but all that's left now is the shitposters.

As for hubris, didn't our friendly general mention Iger's idea for advertising GE was to simply tweet 'it's open' and expect the dummies to come rushing in while emptying their pockets?

I rewatched Attack of the Clones this morning, and I gotta say I really enjoyed it. Compared to Disney shit the universe seems so much richer and more full. The planets are interesting and vibrant and Lucas put a lot of little touches in that I didn't really notice or appreciate in the past - like Boba getting in the Slave 1 cockpit and showing how the pilot sits upwards facing the sky until takeoff, or Obi-Wan's little spherical holo cartridge that he places on a pedestal to bring up the galactic map projection for Yoda.

A lot of the CGI still looks pretty damn good, even if its obviously dated at times. It bums me out to think that we could have gotten a series of batshit Lucas films that at least had some originality. Hopefully Disney ends up doing time travel in episode IX and accidentally retcons their own trilogy out of canon

My deal is the first act on Coruscant is pretty decent the second is uneven being divided between the honestly pretty enaging Obi Wan half and the pretty cringy Anakin/Padme half (Though it does give us a couple of meme worthy lines and I do like the scene where Anakain massacres the men wahmen and children though) Topped off by the pointless droid factory which in hindsight isn't that bad compared to Canto Bight but still outstays its welcome (same with the entire arena sequence befor Mace Shows up). Despite a couple hang ups like Yoda using a lightsaber, the Battle of Geonosis is one of my favorite large scale battles of the franchise (though a lot of that is because of how fleshed out it was in Legends where you had over half a dozen Videogames all portraying different perspectives of the fight such as Mace and the Jedi infiltrating the Arena in the Clone Wars, the 501st securing a rally point in the Battlefront 2 prologue, Adi Gallia and Nym fighting off enemy reinforcements in Jedi Starfighter, and my personal favorite the behind the scenes operations of Delta Squad in Republic Commando).

I feel the same in that they’re were less sloppy writing that leaves more plot holes than answers this time, though there is still wonky dialogue.

Still, I do admire its ambitions in expanding and exploring the SW lore. Plus, the Geonosis area scene was the shit.
