Marcia by accounts was a very skilled editor - not the greatest of all time, but well, well above average - and her edit of the battle of Yavin made George rethink the flow of other parts of the movie and have OTHER people come in and edit it.

As for her disapearing, I don't know if that was so much her being a shitty editor as her deciding she's got enough money to retire now, so fuck it.

With the RJ trilogy in limbo, I think Disney is watching to see if Knives Out will be a hit that wasn’t affected by TLJ or not.

To be honest, I think Knives Out is going to be the deciding factor in his trilogy, besides the future of Lionsgate obviously since they are a takeover target themselves.

The real deciding factor, I feel, will be the power struggle behind the scenes; if Kennedy and cohorts stay in control, Rian might get his trilogy after all, but if Feige takes over, Johnson is 100% out as he wouldn't never be able to produce the safe, bland, middle-of-the-road content that Feige has championed for the MCU.

He'll probably get a bit role like Wedge. Someone told me that the spoilers I posted weren't valid since Wedge wasn't in them, but he'll play just as much a role in ROS as Ackbar did in TLJ, if he shows up at all.

So the earliest a Rian Johnson Joint comes out is 2025. Or 6 years from now after all the energy in the Disney brand has gone into D+. And all the fan good will and possibly healing will be done on D+
BUT lets say the known contracts still happen
if they Do BnW first and do them back to back you have 2025-2028 locked down. [Assuming Disney doesnt marry them to Rian]
So that puts his earliest in the secondary scenario is 2029....or 10 years from now, 11 years since his last SW movie
